Music Review - Skinny Puppy in Dallas

Skinny Puppy with Otto Von Schriach and  The White MIce

We got there early enough to catch the opening act, Otto Von Schriach.  Otto is from Florida and he does a "one man band" type of show so its basically just him, a laptop, and a microphone. He was playing some insanely dark breakcore fused with little bits of electro, techno and off the wall  samples and kooky stage humor. He came out in a superhero costume and did his entire act in that. He played tracks like "Satanic Unicorn Orgy" and "Zombie Prom" while I giant walrus came out and battled with Otto with a plastic light up sword.  His set was all over the place, messy, grimey and good.  Here is a video of Otto

The next act was The White Mice from Rhode Island. Now, being that this is a Skinny Puppy show, I expect to hear some bizarre stuff but honestly I think the order of the bands should have been switched. The White Mice were these 3 guys dressed up in mice costumes and their sound is somewhat droning and energywise they were about about 500 notches below Otto. I'm cool with droning noise but after Otto it just wasn't what I wanted to hear.  Here is a vid of The White Mice -

So finally Skinny Puppy goes on. They were incredible. The sound was way too loud, not sure what happened because it was fine for the opening bands. I expected nothing but the best and that is what they delivered. It was a fest for the eyes and ears. And guess who I saw - Tray and Stacy! I actually saw a few old school peeps, even a few folks from the high school days.

Somebody got some REALLY good video of the Dallas show on Youtube. Here it is -

We were with Matt and Sean.  Neither of them had seen SP before and they both loved the shit out of SP by the time we left.

It was only midnight so we decided to go to The Church after the show.
I had never been. And I don't think I'll go back. =)

Got home at 3am, it was a late night due to a massive traffic jam on 75 on the way home.

Glad I got to see Skinny Puppy again though!
