Excuse me while I jump around in joy. And Happiness. And Life, actually, since I'm an undead zombie with a wisdom score of 4 without the Internet.
Yeah. So I'm still sick. But exciting news! I read Anansi Boys, by Neil Gaiman.
I was originally interested in Anansi Boys because it was advertised as a sort of sequel to American Gods. But it really isn't, and that's the first thing I learned when I read Neil Gaiman's
blog. And I've been obsessively following said blog for a very long time now. How wonderful it is to read Neil Gaiman's witticisms daily... God, I love that man.
Enough of Sharmin's madlove for Neil Gaiman, back to Anansi Boys. It's a lot more like Neverwhere or Stardust than American Gods- it just takes place in the American Gods universe. And it's a charming, heartwarming comedy about family, love and learning to accept yourself. Actually, I would say it's quintessential Neil Gaiman, without all the darkness and grittiness of his Sandman series and American Gods. It's still realistic- but much lighter.
Fahad claims that he read half the book only to put it down and wonder if anything had happened so far. That's not a bad description of the book, actually. Plot-wise it's rather predictable and features mostly characters interacting with each other.
I thoroughly enjoyed it. Not what you'd expect from Gaiman, maybe, but an enjoyable book that you can breeze through.
