The Ten Commandments (response requested)

While I was in Hawaii I finished reading Kiss My Tiara by: Susan Jane Gilman. This is a book I picked up in the self-help section at Barnes and Noble. I don’t frequent that section (perhaps I should), but she is also the author of one of my favorite books- Hypocrite in a Poofy White Dress. I thought this book was really great. It was simple, made me laugh and was all about women. It was what I thought Chicken Soup for the Soul should have been. Anyway, the point is that in Chapter 21, which is titled, “Give us that ol’-time religion- so we can clobber sanctimonious morons with It”, she begins speaking about creating a spiritual life on our own terms. Here is a little excerpt:
“Creating a spiritual life on our own terms certainly has its appeal. I mean, If I, personally, could invent my own religion, it might include, say, taking “communion” with M&M’s and Yoo-hoo, and teaching men that cunnilingus is a form of prayer. (Heck, if they’re going to be down on their knees anyway, they might as well do something useful.) In addition to the Ten Commandments, I’d have the Ten Strongly Worded Suggestions, including: 1. Thou shalt not whine. 2. Thou shalt not complain that you are oppressed if, in fact, you’re part of the most privileged group of people in the history of the world. 3. Thou shalt maintain a body weight at least equal to your IQ. 4. Thou shalt not cheat at scrabble. And so forth.”

This got me thinking. I wonder if I were two write my own Ten Strongly Worded Suggestions what they would be? I wonder if I would even write them as an addendum to the Ten Commandments or if I would throw those out the window and make my own. Then I started wondering what my friend would do.

So, here is my request. Please respond back to this blog and let me know if you would do away with the Ten Commandments and start over anew or if you would write an addendum. I would also LOVE to see the list of your very own Ten Strongly Worded Suggestions.
