The beginnings of a quick ficlet

.....I wrote something for once XDD. Here's what I've got so far....stopped mid statement >_>

----

It was less than a week until the U.S.S. Enterprise would make its official launch. The ship had already been christened, the festivities had ended, and James T. Kirk found himself staring up at the sky from his current position of laying drunk in the grass outside Starfleet Academy. Not exactly the most prestigious of positions to find a future captain in, but currently Kirk couldn’t care less. The grass was soft, the wind was cool, and Kirk found himself uncaring about that single rock poking painfully into the soft flesh of his back.

He wasn’t hammered, despite appearances, but instead just lightly buzzed, with what should have been a general feeling of well-being. His life was set. He’d made the grade. This next week he would be Captain and that right there was reason enough for celebration.

All of these facts however didn’t help the building sense of discontent that was currently bubbly hatefully in the pit of his stomach.

He knew he could do this. He was fated to be the captain of the Enterprise. He’d even had his first officer, from the future, enforce this fact readily. If anything, the events of these past few weeks had cemented his future in stone.

And it wasn’t as if that fact bothered him. He wanted to be the captain. He knew that now, after everything, that that simple fact wouldn’t change. Even so, he was ill at ease.

His attempt at standing up went better than he had anticipated. At least he’d gotten to his knees. Of course, he then promptly face-planted back into the grass. Ok, so his equilibrium wasn’t quite what it was supposed to be, so sue him, he was drunk. Ok, very drunk. He’d been lying to himself a while ago.

He attempted to stand once more, this time with a little more progress. At least he’d wobbled on his feet a few seconds this time before falling back down, hard, on his back.

…The stars were pretty…

“I’m surprised given the level of alcohol in your blood that you’ve failed to pass out yet”

Kirk shut his eyes and resisted a moan as a very familiar face stepped out of the darkness.

“Happ-eh evEnin to youu tooo Spck”

“I believe the expression is “Good evening” is it not? Not that you are capable of pronouncing it given your current state, but it seems like an important distinction to make”

Kirk failed to suppress his moan this time.

“I thout yoou lefft”

Spock strode forward, his head shaking a no as he did so.

“No, my ship is not scheduled to leave until the fourteenth.

kirk, oh hey look ficlet, bleh, spock
