Mistress BlackOpal,

The following review has been submitted to: A Mirror Never Lies
Chapter: 3

From: Keilyuu (look her up if you want her contact)

This is very stupid of me to bring up something that happened years >ago, but I >must say you have some nerve.

Your name is Opal, and it's more than likely that there are going to be about eight thousand more people in the world named Opal. And somehow, I doubt your name really is Opal. Your story is good, but you have a lot of nerve flaming someone because you think they "defiled" your name. Well I have news for you: People write to express themselves, and they certainly don't need you saying "OMFG HOW DARE U USE MY NAME ?/!1" Face it lady, I'd be shocked if I found someone named Keilyuu on this site, but no way in hell would I bitch them out for it.

Yes, Opalina is one of my friends, but that has nothing to do with the fact that I wish to defend someones right to...write. Self-inserts are often an author's first way of writing, and they get better and better. Yes, all of my fanfics have OC's in them, and I'm not defending myself, but rather everyone who has written a well-done one.

You are very welcome to email me in response or leave an off-topic review in one of my fanfics, as well I have done to yours.

I am very open to flames on my stories, and I will not cuss you out in response. Go ahead and call my characters Mary-Sues, or Gary-Stus, or Mary-Stus, and say that they aren't suited to their names...(which is ridiculous, my name is Jessica, which means "God Beholds" or something of the sort. That does not describe me in the least, but it is still my name. It is ridiculous to pick on someone for the name they were given.)

As for your writing, I must say I am very impressed by your use of canon characters, your descriptions and your heavy angst. I will admit that your writing is superior to mine, as well you are probably much older than me. I'm not impressed by the incestuous elements, it is not something that appeals to me. You are very daring to write something of the sort.

The stone, Opal, is strong and sharp. I do not see you as strong and sharp from your reviews in Opalina's fanfiction. I see you as bold, brash and overall not very nice.

You are free to bash me in any way you wish, be it email or review. Unless by this time you have outgrown your flaming ways? I suppose time will tell.

~~~Yes, it has been quite some time since my flaming age. I forget how many years it's been since we found opalina. As you guessed, Opal is not my real name, but a pseudonym I adopted because of the jewel's brilliance and it's Australian denotations, as I am a strong patriot. Contrary to your descriptions, the opal is soft and smooth, compared to other jewels, ranking between fingernails and ice on moh's scale of hardness, and polished rounded and usually oval to maximise the brilliance of the refractive properties of the spherical opal crystals. Believe me, I would know more about opals than you. The opal is merely a stone of magnificent light play, it's practicality as a 'strong' and 'sharp' stone aren't worth considering for any self respecting jewel merchant.
I am now 17. I don't remember how old I was when I wrote those little fics, but I've long since stopped, both writing, reviewing and flaming. I don't know how old you are now, but I believe I was as young and juvenile as the next person on ff.net when I was active on my account. Sure, my friends and I played silly games flaming whoever for whatever reasons, most likely a pre-teen power trip on being creatively superior or something equally egotistical, but I myself loved receiving flames for the fact that my writing may have disturbed anyone, affecting at least one person in the world. The mere fact that you wrote to me after so long would have sent the younger me on another egotistic high, but now I write to apologise if I hurt your friend emotionally. Even if you only know her via ff.net and the internet, loyalties run deep in defence of a friend's creative work. Perhaps you yourself are opalina under another pseudonym, but at least the message comes across.
I am, however surprised at the 'intensity' of your email. Seeing as this incident occurred beyond the scope of my clear memory, I assumed that it affected others in much the same way, as a short series of flames delivered in what? the span of a week? Your review/flame pulled me back into the reality that people in this world are still so touché.
Perhaps I am 'daring' to write about the taboos of society, but as you said, fanfiction is a place to 'express' oneself. I felt the will to write about these taboos as they both appealed to me and because they were merely skirted around throughout the rest of fanfiction. I, myself, have 5 uncles and as fun to be with most of them are, I have never had incestuous thoughts toward them. Don't be juvenile to believe that I also insert myself into these characters, OC or alternate personality, as my stories think for themselves and I create whatever I feel the character could work with, not what I feel I have to put myself into to be able to express myself to the fandom community.
I admit I did not read much of opalina's works before flaming her, but the first page or so was not enough to attract my curiosity, just the name. My friends and I enjoyed the game of flaming whoever we felt was not worth the internet publishing, but due to our extreme lust for, well, extremes, few people made the list as an acceptable writer. You should not feel offended by these past flames as they are, of course a thing of the past, be you opalina or her acquaintance. They were not aimed at anyone but an entity we deems different from us, whoever we were back then. Sure, I claim responsibility, who else could for my own actions? However, I did not believe such a thing could be taken so seriously.
I do not ask nor forbid you to reply, as I have no control over your actions except to block you, but I believe this is a childish and naïve thing to do, when I may even benefit from your words, in one way or another. So feel free to reply, if my reply to you was not to your liking, or it offended you, or if it changed your view of me. Otherwise, write for the sake of it. Your reply could reveal to me what sort of a person you really are. You, however, judged me by the old reviews from a game my friends and I played. Not the best quality material, but I guess fanfiction was your only source.
Thank you very much for a mature response. I apoligize for my ignorance on the gem "opal" but I was simply going by what one of the other flamers had said.
Indeed I guessed, you are older than me. I am 15 years old, one year younger than Opalina.
I must assure you that Opalina and I are not the same person, but indeed I have been friends with her for three years. If you did look under her reviews section, you may find a reviewer named "Jakako", or, "Korneynoko Shuffle". These are my former pen names, which I have lost due to collaberated works which I cannot take credit for, and a lost email address.
I see very well that you have matured, as have I and Opalina. I thank you for the critism on my opinion, as I have yet to mature. I cannot help but feel defensive when one of my friends feels hurt.
I see you in a new respect now, it was wrong of me to judge you by a few simple reviews. After all, I'm just a person on the internet and I have no idea what you are like in real life.
Your fiction is good, I see that you are expressing yourself, which is indeed a good thing. I myself am a bit squeamish and close-minded when it comes to incest, but that is simply my opinion and I hope it to be respected as well I have learned to respect yours.
I also wouldn't mind going over this on MSN messenger, if it so does not bother you. If you wish you may contact me on that messenger at ***************@hotmail.com. I have no idea where you live and what your time zones are, but I am awake almost all hours of the day.
I apologize for bitching you out (pardon the mouth) about the name subject, for you did write this years ago and people change. As a person matures, he bows his head in modesty.
You have impressed me with your writing and with this response, and I now feel rather stupid ranting at you in defense of my friend. I hope you can take the maturity you have just displayed for me and forgive my ignorance.
I thank you for not leaving an off-topic review in my fanfiction, as I did with yours. I do not know how to find email addresses on fanfiction.net, as I am rather new to posting fanfiction when it comes to experiance.
I will not flame you again, and I hope you no reason to block me.
It is 5:08 am where I am and I have not slept, as well I have a story to work on, so I am going to wrap up this email. Like you, I will not ask for you to reply, but unlike you, I will say that I would appreciatte it greatly.
