some ppl never learn (ebay douche pt. 2)

So, I tried to be nice to ebay guy and explain that there was nothing I could do since it was a USPS issue, but that wasn't good enough so he went ahead and opened up a dispute with PayPal. Over a $15 gameboy game. LOL.

Now, the funny thing is that as a buyer, you really don't have a lot of protection from making purchases on eBay and most people don't know this. The main reason I have concluded is that, these companies make their money off of sellers. It doesn't cost money to bid on an item, but it costs money to list it and when it sells. It doesn't cost money to make a payment via PayPal, but they take a percentage when a seller receives it.

The only protection you have really as a buyer is if 1) You buy something and you don't receive it. 2) You win and item and it's "significantly different" than what is described. The key word is "significantly" here. If something is listed as New and you get an item that is Used, that is grounds for a valid claim. You buy a gold necklace but you receive a silver one, again that is a valid claim.

However, lets say you buy something listed as "like new" or "mint" but what you receive isn't in that condition. Well, that's subjective and most likely will get denied. Lets say you buy a portable radio and everything works but the cd player - again this will most likely get denied, especially if the seller says something like "everything seems to work fine, but I do not guarantee 100% functionality" This is an actual scenario that happened to me and I was stuck with a portable radio with a broken cd player. There is a lot of "buyer beware" that most people simply don't know about.

eBay went public in 1998, I have been a member since 1999 and have read quite extensively about the protections sellers and buyers have and frankly, it isn't very much. Just an FYI for LJ world.

Anyways, back to ebay guy fuckhole. His claim was that it is 1) external damaged and 2) used. Lets tackle 2) right now. The item is listed as USED in the auction. Golly fucking gee. It's also listed as "mint" and "like new." Here is an actual picture that I took before I shipped it, you tell me.

I'm not trying to fuck anyone over here, but this is ridiculous. Back to 1). I actually contacted the Post Office and explained the situation to them and the girl kind of just laughed. She said that their insurance only covers making sure that the item itself in working order upon arrival. Not any sort of packaging.

A similar analogy would be this. You order a toaster. You receive the toaster. The toaster makes perfect toast, but you want to either return it or claim insurance because the toaster box has a cosmetic defect. Fuck you, eat your toast.

I basically explained all this to PayPal and am confident they will tell this guy to piss off. I also left him negative feedback (no more 100% for you!) advising other sellers to beware that he opened a PayPal dispute because of a Post Office handling problem and would not sell again. And depending on what kind of mood I am in when this is all resolved, I may even open a PayPal fraud claim against him.

All over a $15 fucking video game.

The ironic part is, I actually went out an got a larger bubble envelop for this specific game (gba boxes are wider than ds game boxes) so nothing would happen to the box - yet still all this bullshit has gone done.

I guess some things are just meant to happen.
