It was kind of strange, this morning. I kind of woke up at 10 in that strange feeling of being half asleep and half awake. I heard a strange voice coming from downstairs, and I figured my dad was listening to the radio. Then my dad started talking to the voice, and I was a little disconcerted. "Would you look at that, my dad's talking to the guy on the radio." Then the radio answered back. I pondered this for a second before deciding I hadn't had enough sleep yet.
I had orchestra rehersal this afternoon, playing the two most depressing pieces I've played in a while: The Egmont overture and the Romeo and Juliet overature, the former by Beethoven and the latter by Tchaichofsky [/cantbebotheredtolookuptheproperspelling]. The egmont is about a revolution that fails and its leaders execution, and Romeo and Juliet is basically the story told in a piece of music. Egmont isn't all bad; its good angry music. I have a list of pieces that I play when I'm pissed or sad about something. It helps to have a piece that you can just lay into. I guess its my way of punching a pillow (or a wall, as seemed to be the case with me before I started doing this ;) ).
However, good news from that. I got into the
Peninsula Symphony today! Its fucking awesome, my first seat in an adult orchestra, and its one of the better amateur ones around. I'll be playing with them starting in the fall, I'll let you guys know when the concerts are.
I got back and I was bored, so I got around to making my video for an online card manipulation tourney I'm in. Each round is on a different kind of manipulation. The first round was one handed cuts, and the second is card fans. I was really happy with the way my video came out; I nailed both of my big moves (the closing and reopening the fan at the beginning in three different ways, and the giant fan twirl.), and fans are my strongest suit, so I think I'm going to move on. Vid is here:
