When coming back home from Starke from a mystery shop I noticed what I thought was a newly hit gray fox in the middle of my lane. (
Picture from Google maps) When I swerve around it I noticed that the head turned to look at the car as I went by.
"Oh my god, it is still alive!"
Turning around quickly I drove back to where it was laying and the fox looked OK, no blood seen or anything but it was just laying in the middle of the right lane. Franticly Fran and I talked about what we should do. It was most likely clipped and would need medical care. How could we get it home as we had Frejya with us in the truck and I did not have anything to protect my hands should the fox want to bite me. It is a hurt and scared animal after all.
Hoping out of the truck, I started to walk to it hoping the for the best when I noticed a car coming up. I started to wave to them hoping that they would at least slow down and not just run it over more. When the car got close to it, it got up and ran into the bushes limping a little bit on the rear legs.
Well that was a shock. I would have have expected her to have moved after getting hit by a car and not as well as it was doing. (Yes I was close enough to sex her at this point) I followed her into the tree line on the left and saw her standing about 10 feet away from me just ten feet away from me panting. Not sure what else to do,I figure I might as well try to catch her as she was hurt. I started stomping into the bush and almost went head first into a web of a
Orb Spider! Eeep!
Sadly since the spider distracted me the vixen left and I did not see where she went. I do feel really lucky to have seen a gray fox that close in the wild. Maybe I need to work with my spirit guides a bit more.
