Nathan Sendak was disappointed when his girlfriend,
Heidi Alcott, said she couldn't
see him as much anymore. But the truth was he understood where she was coming from. Sure, his mother may physically be present, but that didn't mean that plenty of the responsibility for his siblings hadn't fallen on Nathan's shoulders while
Rika chased after one true love after another.
When the moved to Nevermore, Rika had declared that she was turning over a new, more maternal leaf. Yet here Nathan was again, helping his little sister with her homework. Part of it was habit;
Morrow knew Nathan was the more reliable one to ask help from. More than that, though, Rika had found a new passion.
From the moment Rika had held that paintbrush in her hand, she had taken to painting with a zeal usually reserved for her lovers. The teach yourself painting kit had definitely been, in Rika's eyes, the best purchase she had ever made off of tv.
To Rika's frustration, her children were not as impressed with her new hobby as she would have hoped. Apparently they still didn't think she was attendant enough or something like that.
"Thanks for helping with my homework, Nathan."
"Of course, Morrow. Everyone knows kids need help with their homework."
In addition to giving their mother a hard time, Morrow and Nathan bonded over their mutual dislike of their aunt,
Zephyr. After accidently picking up the receiver in the middle of a phone call between Zephyr and their neighbor,
Dag Bronte, Morrow hadn't even been able to look her aunt in the face.
Fortunately for them, Zephyr good news over the phone that day: her loan application had been approved.
She was gone before either of them got home from school.
------
The Sendaks got such a short day because I got called to a birth in the middle of playing and it was one of those "drop everything and run" calls. So I had to yell for a family member to save and shut down my game. Which they did... eventually. They let it run until the in-game time was the following morning. (And in case you're curious, I did make it to the birth in time, but barely: it was a run inside while you put on your gloves just in time to catch the baby kind of birth. So I'm glad I didn't wait around to shut down the game myself!)
I'm not really sure why, but Morrow really hates Zephyr.
