One night, while Justin was on the road with the circus, the house was quiet and peaceful. It was about two a.m., and the whole house was asleep. The sound of the ringing phone broke into their thoughts, though, and Jack fought his way out of bed to pick up the phone.

When he heard what the voice on the other end was saying, he thought this must be a dream. A horrible, horrible dream.

Justin was dead, the voice on the phone had told him. There had been a horrible accident at work, that had killed Justin and two other people.

Jack hung up the phone, and sunk down to the floor. He decided to wait until Kiki woke up, and then tell her, and have her help with telling the girls.

He went through with that plan, and the household fell into a state of shocked grief. Kiki called and told Lauren, who immediately rushed over to the house. During Lauren's visit, Jack was extremely upset, and therefore was very abusive toward Lauren. She left the house after a very short visit.

A few days later, the family attended Justin's funeral. Everyone except Lauren.

She waited a few days, and during a time she knew Jack was at work, she drove over to see Kiki and the children, and to say her final goodbyes to Justin.

Kiki, Jack, and the kids were taking it the hardest of all. The kids' grades had gone way down, and the school was threatening to ship them off for a stricter education. Jack and Kiki held together the best they could, and became like parents to the children, and between the four of them, they started to get their lives back on track.

Lauren had her husband there for support, and along with the grief of Justin's death, came good things as well. Chuck was promoted to Chief of Staff at the hospital he worked at, and Lauren found out she was expecting their first child. She still invited her sister and the children over frequently. The healing process had begun for all of them, and they seemed to be doing fine. Everyone but Jack, that is. He held himself together for his girls, but while they weren't around, he would go out to Justin's memorial and cry for hours on end.

Then, another happy surprise happened: Lauren gave birth to twins, Wesley and Lindsey. Lauren reluctantly quit her job to stay home and raise her children. They didn't need the money, since Chuck was so successful, but Lauren needed a hobby and so she started her own canned preserve business right out of her home.
