Prosperity Challenge - 11.1 (Days/Years 31-33 - Burkett)

Starting Round 11! This is a pretty epic entry, comparatively speaking.

Alvin had a lot on his mind lately. His wife's expanding belly was both exciting and a painful reminder of the truth he'd recently learned. Everyone in town had heard about the birth of Glen Thigpen's alien twins, Strat and Orb. Alvin hadn't seen them himself, but Melanie Lind had, and she described them to him.

"They're from outer space, all right,"; she said. "Both green as can be, with huge eyes. One of them has pointy ears! The other one has those black eyes like yours." She looked at him carefully, waiting to see how he'd react to this news.

He just said, “Oh, really?” and changed the subject.

Of course he knew what that implied - he’d even been told, years ago, by a woman with the same eyes. ( Here.) He’d argued at the time, and refused to believe it. It had bothered him though, all through his adolescence. Eventually, he’d all but forgotten about it - until now.

So who could blame him for being in a bad mood when Jonathan started hitting on Melanie right in front of him? His stupid robot wasn’t supposed to seduce his ex-lovers.

And, ok, maybe it was stupid to make out with Melanie after that - especially with his wife sleeping in the next room. But he was mad, and mad at Melanie both for being attracted to his own robot and for taking such delight in pointing out that Alvin was part alien. And somehow being mad at her made him want to prove that he was still the one calling the shots in his own house. He was pretty sure afterward, though, that all he’d proven was that he’d let her get to him.

He was worried that she was going to start coming around the house all the time, thinking that they were involved again, but as it turned out, he didn’t see much of her after that. (Author’s note: Chris is no fool - and no slouch when it comes to intimidation.)

The big day finally arrived. Alvin had thought he was prepared. They’d bought a crib and a changing table and everything.

But can anything prepare you for twins? Chris joked that there must be something in the town’s water - first the alien twins, then Abe and Eleanore, Shena and Eli’s new babies, and now their own Grant (boy) and Isidra (girl).

Alvin may not have been prepared, but he was relieved. He’d been worried that he wouldn’t be able to love his children if they had his eyes - a constant reminder of the heritage he hated. But, though they did both have his eyes, he found that their appearance only filled him with joy.

He’d thought when he’d picked Chris as a wife that he’d chosen well, and even that he was doing her a favor. But he now realized that he’d gotten more than he’d bargained for, and he felt lucky that someone like her would share her life with someone like him. He thought of his cocky attitude toward women in the past and felt ashamed. He didn’t think he could ever repay her for willingly sacrificing her body to give him his children.

But the more he was awed by his wife, the more his hatred for the aliens grew. It seemed likely that his own father had been forced to bear him as a result of an abduction - was it any wonder he’d been put in an orphanage? It was terrible, what they did. He began to look at his career in the military in a new light. He knew he was close to being promoted to astronaut.

Presenting Grant Burkett…

…and Isidra Burkett! The first sims of generation 3! Alvin is G2, since he was adopted way back in the early days. Also, I'm almost sure these twins are natural - I even went and looked in SimPE to see if Chris had an "Ate Cheesecake" memory, and she didn't, whereas Glen Thigpen did.
