Question: Building houses

I want to make some Sims 2 houses following layouts for real houses. Is there a standard equivalent of what the squares on a lot are equal to in terms of how many feet are in a plan.

For example, if a room on a real plan is 10'5 x 11'8 what would be the sensible equal when making a Sims house? The same only in squares?
