adventures in simply land

So work this morning, and I started at 8:30. Meant I had to leave at 7:30 and it was cold and dark when I left. It was just me today, so I got ran off my feet. Patients kept coming in and the phones kept ringing and I was attempting to do the call pile (i.e. call people to come back because of test results, etc.). I was bad and when the doctor asked me if I wanted to stay late, I kinda just shrugged. Technically my shift didn't end until 3:30 but really we're not supposed to stay more than 1/2 hour past when the doctor leaves. The reason is simple: no doctor means the clinic is bringing in no money. Head office really doesn't like shelling out money when it isn't making money.

Thus I left work at 2. Then I went to Chapters, which is basically the Canadian equivalent of Barnes and Nobles. It sells books and some movies and there's a Starbucks inside. I had a five dollar off if I spent 35 dollars, so I bought Water for Elephants (recommend by lapiccolina and a Heather's Pick so if I don't like, I get my money back) and Middlesex (I actually wanted The Virgin Suicides but I'll live). Then, because Starbucks was so busy, I left and walked the few blocks to the bus loop that I never knew existed. I only walked because I thought it was lame to catch the bus to take me the short distance, since I would have had to switch at the bus loop (when I was coming to Chapters, I didn't need to switch.

Okay, so then I got on the bus and ended up at Central City mall and got myself some hot chocolate from Blenz. It's really awesome, expensive hot chocolate, and the service is quick. I waited for the bus and it was late and it was very cold. And people kept smoking even though they're not supposed to smoke in the bus loop area. I hate people sometimes.

Now for the rants.

Tim Hortons, how I hate this place. It's a donut/coffee thing, kind of like Dunkin' Donuts I imagine. Going to it tends to be painful for me. I first went into the one in the strip mall (no clue if that's a term used by others) the clinic is located in. Waited. Waited so more. The line didn't move. A man ahead of me asked the two girls standing at a till why they weren't doing anything. Girl A went, "I'm in training." They did nothing to get someone to help them. I left. Then I went into the Tim Hortons at the strip mall Chapters is located in. Waited and waited and finally got my plain bagel with butter on the side. Took ages. Starbucks is faster, I swear.

When I was at Blenz, a group of 4 had a guitar and were singing. In the coffee shop. A coffee shop isn't the approrpriate place to play your guitar and sing your Christian rock. Really, it's not.

Lastly, my love affair with the fog is over. It's not longer enchanting (although at night it can be). After several days where the fog is a constant presence, I've grown tired of the thick gray sky and the inability to see that far in the distance. Fog usually doesn't hang around all day here, but it has been for the past several days. Fog all day.
