Merry Christmas to all my dearest friends. I think this is my first christmas in lj. I hope everyones Christmas will be filled with blessings and joy.
Every Christmas is a time for me to look back to the year that just went by. I should say that 2006 have given me a million memories and blessings. I am thankful for the good and pleasant days, for the stressful yet satisfying moments, for the friends, for the lessons I learned, for my family, for a safe year....Like always this year I will be spenting my Christmas at home..nothing more.
One thing i will remember about this Christmas season is the "SONIC BHOOM", haha did that make sense?? Well i meant the sonic bhoom we heard in Houston on Friday, as Space Shuttle Discovery entered earth's athmostphere. They said we would be ablt to see the shuttle as it passed through Houston like a spark of fire, but there was too much sunlight so i missed it :(. Yes i do have quite a lot of intrest in these things, will write more about it later.
While writing about Christmas, what comes to my mind is the imprinted memories of my childhood Christmas in India. My family being very simple about everything never seemed to do any extravaganza stuff for Christmas. But i always loved the Christmas decorations and the fun stuff. I think i was 9 years that year when i was stubborn to get a christmas tree, my parents said "NO, you are too young for all that". I just stayed with my wish and made them give permission. I went into the frontyard and picked a potted plant which resembled a Christmas tree, dragged it somehow with the help of my little brother into the house and decorated it somehow. My next mission was to make the crib. After a lot of hardwork we finally finished the crib which looked like the leaning tower of Piza. Theres a lot more of memories like this that i remember every christmas...those family gatherings, hanging out with cousins, bijuchachens christmas cakes, staying up all night to see the christmas carols, waking up at 2am in the morning to got ot the midnight mass in the chilling weather, exchanging gifts with Secret santas...oh yeah secret santas. Our batch started this thing in out school. I still remember my last year in school when my secret santa gave me a "memorable gift". It was in the tenth grade when we all returned after the holidays, our class teacher made the announcement for the secret santas to walk up to their christmas friend and give their gift one at a time. After watching a long sequence of gift exchanges it was finally my turn. A guy named Arun was my Secret Santa, he walked up to me bare handed. I was surprised, so was everyone else, what the hell was he upto. I thought maybe the gift will appear magically or something. Anyways he came up infront of me, reached into his pockets and grabbed some coins. He gave it to me and said "Edo ithu 5 rupees undu, ithukondu thanikkishttamulla enthengilum vangikko" ( Here, this is 5 rupees, you can buy whatever you want with this).
Me: umm....Thanks.
It may not sound that of a big deal now, but it was a big deal back then. It became a subject for everyone to laugh at and it was just another incident to make me feel unworthy. Anyways it gave me some change for the bus fare for a few days :D. Those were the days of simple pleasures.
The play 'Christmas carol' that we did in school is another unforgettable Christmas memory..just because of that i know that play almost byheart....that play surely evokes a Christmas spirit.
Without parties, without gifts, without cakes, without any craziness,...all my christmas days are special.its my favorite time of the year after all...
Sunshine quote:
Lord, make me an instrument of Your peace
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
Where there is injury, pardon;
Where there is doubt, faith;
Where there is despair, hope;
Where there is darkness, light;
Where there is sadness, joy.
O divine Master, grand that i may not so much
seek to be consoled as to console;
To be understood as to understand;
To be loved as to love;
For it is in giving that we receive;
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
And it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.
