soooooooooooooo it looks like my classes next semester will again be all music...which i really don't mind that much. they will be:
(compositon, voice, concert choir, of course)
intro to music technology (bain)
post-tonal theory (bain)
music of the 20th century (hubbert)
it will be like the opposite extreme of my current:
18th century counterpoint
music of the classical period
(though i am in jazz theory, so that is on the modern end...oh well.)
think i'll enjoy it much more than this semester. though i've actually enjoyed the classical class, which i didn't think i would. i'm learning a shit load in jazz theory, though it's really hard to take it all in and i know i can't begin to start applying it to things. sooooo much information. very cool, though.
yeah, we've been talking about riffs and stuff, looking at particular ones that ligon (teacher) has transcribed, and we analyze them...the more i realize how my scatting SUCKS and how honestly (no offense to anyone, of course) ALL of our scatting sucks, just because we had nooooooo idea what we were doing. improv is soooo complicated, and ligon can get up there and scat like crazy, which all the right accidentals of leading to chords and blah, blah, blah, (but now it makes sense to me...kind of). but he sings when he plays on piano, you know, so he's actually hearing it, the changes, etc. in his head...ok, i'm sure this is crazy boring. but today (especially) was a very humbling day in that regard. not that i thought i was an awesome scatter or anything. but now i just feel like an idiot in complete ignorance...hahaha.
oh...but yeah COUNTERPOINT...i love dr.curry, really i do, but that CLASS...soooooooooooooooo boring it makes me want to DIE. an hour and 15 min. of looking at bach inventions and listening to them on recordings of harpsichord? AGH...BLAH...BLEH...maybe like once, but that's what we do EVERY FRIGGIN CLASS...well, pretty much anyway.
ANYFRIGGINWAY
i've felt like crap the last two nights...i think there might be a bug going around my suite, cause my suitemate melissa hasn't been feeling all that well either. i dunno.
i'm going to bed. i'm sure that's actually a lie, but i'll pretend like i am.
