WARNING! THE FOLLOWING ENTRY MIGHT INCLUDE OFFENSIVE LANGUAGE AND MESSAGES. IF YOU THINK YOU MIGHT GET PISSED OFF BY READING WHAT I HAVE TO SAY THEN I WOULD SUGGEST DIVERTING YOUR ATTENTION NOW. DON'T SAY I DIDN'T WARN YOU.
Ok look, I'm sick and tired of hearing people bitch and whine about Valentine's day. IT'S ONE FUCKING DAY WHERE PEOPLE WHO ARE IN LOVE GET TO SHOW THE WORLD. Just because you don't happen to have anyone special to share it with doesn't mean you (and I'm using the noun you in a general sense, this is in no way directed towards any in particular) have the right to jump on everyone else's case that does. For the last five years I have been fortunate enough to have someone to share V-day with, but that does not mean that I do not appreciate that other people are spending the day without roses and candy. I've spent many years of my childhood watching my mother cry alone on Valentine's day. I know it's hard to be reminded that you're alone, but god damn, stop taking for granted that you're alone in your misery, or that there aren't people in your life that love you just as much as the couples you see love eachother.
I guess what I'm trying to say is that Jewish people don't get pissed off at Christians for celebrating Christmas. Other countries don't get mad at America for taking off of work for Thanksgiving. Just because you don't share in the celebration gives you no right whatsoever to get pissed off at those who do, or the celebration itself.
So pop open a bottle of champagne with your other single friends, sit down with a box of chocolates, and watch movies that have absolutely NOTHING TO DO WITH LOVE for a few hours tomorrow. Or even better, celebrate the fact that Valentine's day isn't just about having a boyfriend or girlfriend, it's about recognizing you're ability to love others, and their gracious response of loving you in return. So send your best friend, mom, or dog for all I care a card telling them you appreciate having them in your life.
Okay I'm sure I could say more, but I know most people don't care, and besides I have to finish my love's present.
And by the way, I LOVE YOU, if you're feeling alone.
