the 26th day of February (and counting)

Feb 26, 2007 20:05

on my walk back to my room from the studio i came in the way of a fire-breathing girl. that is (1) a girl (2) drinking lighter fluid, (3) a flaming torch, and of course  (4) me...accidentally walking in the way.

a perfect ending to this day. we brought our second new orleans now! presentation to the reid community center. my question: did the person who scheduled our presence realize that there would only be an audience of 7 kids...4 of which were in kindergarten? (any psych. majors out there? at what age do children's perspectives of the world enlarge to the scale of ours, meaning, not everything is "about me" anymore, but they start thinking in terms of the world?) i don't know how we were expected to explain in great detail the things which we normally explain in these presentations (racial/social strife, poverty, devastation, political bullshit), but we made by well with nadir's perfect simulation of what a levee is. not to say we weren't entertained; i found one child's idea to "tie 50 refrigerators together and float on top of them!" especially inspiring. and maybe they'll remember what we said and the pictures we showed them...after all the issues in new orleans aren't going away any time soon.

i suppose these things happen, miscommunications. i'm just tired of no one listening to us.
