well, i can say it was eventful...

Wow. Vacation just took me through a whirlwind of emotions, seriously. I have so much fun and so much heartache that it kind of hurts to think about it all.

So I present to you, the dear wonderful readers, the summary, in cuts.

Saturday

I was woken up at eleven thirty in the morning and I grabbed my car bag and my pillow and basically walked into the car and fell back asleep. The ride itself is eight and a half hours long -- so yeah, it's really annoying cause of the cramped space and no control over the stereo.

Our plans for the night were to stay with my Aunt Marie (63), one of the few relatives that I absolutely love, and I thought we were just driving up to her house and crashing. But noooooo. We had to stop at my Aunt Phyllis and Uncle Donald's house first.

We were met by Aunt Phyllis (60), Uncle Donald (62), Daisy Mae (their dog, um no clue on age), my cousin Bill (27) and his son Ethan (7), my cousin Dan (30) and his wife Julie (28), my Dad's cousin Frank (over 65) and his wife Paula (same there) and Jennie Salo (and there), who I'm not sure how we're related to her.

I was teased about height and cut off from my notebook and books for three hours. They kept trying to feed me and I was not hungry so I got poked at cause of that. Then Aunt Phyllis kept talking about cancer, which is the most sensitive subject in the world for me, on account of losing my maternal grandmother and dog to it. It's a "don't go there" subject and she would not drop the fucking subject.

Then Aunt Marie came and we drove back to her place where I was asked to fix the computer and made my real quick I miss everyone post. She had a problem with email and it's all fixed so yay. Then I slept on the floor which is not of the fun.

Sunday

Woke up. Aunt Marie made breakfast and she is a fabulous cook. Hung out at her house for a while. Drove out to the campsite, set up camp, bought food, etc. Hung out at the campsite until family started showing up. Aunt Phyllis, Uncle Donald, Bill, and Ethan came for s'mores.

Once they left, I tried to write by flashlight, but Dad told me to turn it off cause I was "wasting" it. I, of course, took this as a personal attack and cried for the rest of the night by the campfire. Then I went to bed.

Monday

Woke up. Dad and I are fine again. We eat breakfast and decide to go swimming. Laura takes a shower before swimming in the lake (?!) and so I wait around. Dad and Mom take off for ice and wood and so we're waiting for Dad to swim. Aunt Marie shows up with second cousins Jake (13) and Deena (9).

We agree to take them swimming and Dad'll meet us down there after showering (?! DIRTY LAKE WATER, WHY ARE YOU SHOWERING?!) so we do that.

Deena used to be the annoying one, but now she's cute and Jake pisses me off in the major way. Apparently, cause I have respect for nature? I'm a tree-hugging freak. Whatever. So we go back to camp and I shower and more relatives show up.

My cousin Duane (44) and his wife Jennifer (40)(Jake and Deena's parents), my cousin Lynn (39) and her daughter Jennie (16), Aunt Phyllis, Uncle Donald, Bill, and Ethan again. To escape the babblings of Aunt Phyllis we decide to go swimming again. Jake, Deena, Jennie, Laura, Lynn, and I -- we all share the same detest for our Aunt Phyllis, heh. So that was fun, I suppose.

Then we go back and have s'mores again and sing happy birthday to Aunt Marie and everyone leaves and THEN my cousin Shawn (25) shows up with his friends Brad (about the same?) and Sarah (about the same?).

Blah. I go to bed shortly after they leave.

Tuesday

Woke up, ate, broke camp with Shawn's help and that was weird. Then we went swimming again (me, Laura, Dad, Shawn, and Brad) and then Aunt Phyllis came with Ethan for lunch. Then we hiked and had ice cream and then we drove around the UP.

Went to Michigamme, which is a tiny gift shop town. I stayed in the car and read "Me Talk Pretty One Day" by David Sedaris, the Illinois "Rules of the Road" book so I can get my permit, and wrote a little bit.

Then we went to "Mt. Shasta" which was a really awesome little restaurant owned by a woman from Chicago, who came to talk to us when she heard we were from Chicago too. Apparently it's famous cause it was used in the movie "Anatomy of a Murder" starring Jimmy Stewart. We ignored Aunt Phyllis again and I was told by her that writing at the table was rude. Fuck her.

Then we drove to Aunt Marie's and spent a second night on her floor and I stayed up to watch Elimidate which was another highlight of the vacation.

Wednesday

Got up, said goodbye to Aunt Marie, drove home, the end. Spent three hours catching up on boards/email/LJ. I missed you all like whoa.
