you know what is absolutely lovely? listening to sarah mclachlan's intro to "hold on," from "afterglow live."
i've been thinking about live albums vs. studio albums, as
barbed_whispers put the bug in my ear. about how much i enjoy live albums, about how much i prefer listening to them than studio albums.
even broadway -- i prefer listening to the live concert of "les miserables" rather than the studio album. but sadly, i only own a couple of broadway live albums, because they are rarely made. just this morning, in my inbox there was a debate about "spring awakening" winning the grammy for best cast album, and everyone agreed that the album doesn't convey the emotion on stage.
and seriously, the only reason i love that album so much is because of what i saw on the tonys. on a live performance. (man, i want the tonys nooooooooow.)
anyways, this brings me back to sarah mclachlan's intro. she sings "you are my sunshine," in this wonderfully lovely high voice and it literally shakes me to the floor when the chord changes into "hold on" -- which is all about someone losing the love of their life.
so. world! put out more live albums. it'll make me happy.
