this is apparently my concert diary now, because if i don't write it down i'll pretty much forget everything. tonight's event -- death cab. i feel totally spoiled/special because i was front row pit the entire time and the theater is huuuuuge, so points there. also the tickets were free from steph's sister-in-law... and i was right in front of chris walla and he is an AMAZING musician. really great guitar player & keyboardist & also a very excellent on-stage dancer. the woman on my left was a little annoying: she booed 'i will follow you into the dark' (bitch) and she kinda kept giving me looks because i was dancing around a lot, but other than that the crowd was pretty cool. girls behind me asked for my name so they could look up the video i took of one song... um what else. rogue wave opened and i told the guitarist he was awesome when they finished (also a good dancer, that one)... ben gibbard's hair is super super long and definitely fugly, but it's forgiven because he's cool. the bass player is really short. i'm still not really feeling their new record even though i basically heard it for the first time today, but 'crooked teeth' and 'transatlanticism' and 'soul meets body' completely made up for the new shit. hooray.
in other music news: rilo kiley was last week and they were the shit. we were kinda far away but jenny lewis' voice still managed to get under my skin and into my bloodstream. blake's amazing; they did a rendition of ripchord that i love love loved. lavender diamond opened and her on-stage schtick was annoying, it was all innocent and wide-eyed and 'let's clap for planet earth, the beeeest planet in the whole wide world', but i still kinda liked her songs. benji hughes was high.
also met the fratellis last week. they did an in-store thing at the virgin megastore downtown and i went with jarita and elu. we talked to the bassist about his tattoo, i developed a giant crush on the drummer. they have amazingly thick scottish accents.
summer is awesome.
