And I just thought I'd say one other quick thing: "local person." i don't mean to sound as if i'm saying anything about local politics--in fact, i think that's the best way to start making a little dent. sure, there's no way i singlehandedly am going to stop the crisis in Darfur. But, I can work on my local campus to get them to stop supporting the big name companies with oil interests there. It's a small dent, but it's something I can change. And if enough people do that, then bigger dents are possible. Local things are sometimes the best to get involved with because it does directly affect you and others.
And look at something like the Vagina Monologues. They started as one woman's project. She got support, a lot of it, and how it's turned into a nation wide annual show. People all over are listening to why Vaginas should be respected, about rape as a war tactic, about how women feel. Even that is an issue that people can fight for. So yea... all I really meant was "pick something and damn it, make it happen." Even if it is running for Student Government president, or petitioning your administrations or educating your campus about Vaginas! It's just the idea of doing something--of actively working towards a better world that I think everyone should be at least partially involved in.
Unless, of course, you're happy with the world exactly as it is. Then... I just don't know what to do with you.
