Koki’s waiting outside of Kame’s door when Kame returns at some god-forsaken hour after wrapping up filming for Going! He’s dead on his feet but Koki’s bright grin when he notices Kame trudging over ebbs his zombieness just a little.
“What’re you doing here?” Kame says, but it mostly comes out in a tired sort of jumble of words. Koki seems to understand anyway, and he takes Kame’s keys from his hand to unlock the door and usher Kame inside.
“Just passing by,” is all Koki says and if Kame weren’t so tired, he’d demand the truth. As it is, he’s pretty sure he does know why Koki is there, the same reason why Ueda had stopped by two days ago after a long day full of meetings and interviews and how Taguchi had been over in the morning the day before that.
“I’m fine,” Kame insists to Koki who is pulling Kame out of his coat like Kame’s suddenly aged backwards to a five year old.
“I know,” Koki replies easily and Kame can’t help the small smile tugging at the corner of his lips.
Kame is pushed into the bathroom and he teases, “What, you’re not going to give me a sponge bath?”
Koki leans against the doorframe and smirks. “Only if you want me to, Kame-chan,” he replies and Kame pushes him back and slams the door in his face.
He heads into the bedroom after a quick five minute shower, towel wrapped around his waist, and feeling much more alive than he did ten minutes earlier. He rummages in his closet for sweatpants to spare Koki who’s already lounging in his bed, even though he’s sure Koki wouldn’t care less if Kame slept naked like he normally does. He climbs into bed after dressing and Koki’s instantly wrapping blankets securely around his body and Kame rolls his eyes at him.
“For fuck’s sake, I’m not a baby,” he tells him but Koki grins and says, “You’re KAT-TUN’s baby,” only to receive a punch in the shoulder with all the strength Kame can muster.
“Fuck you,” Kame says, his glare ineffective in the dark.
Kame can hear the grin in Koki’s voice when he replies, “Not tonight,” and this time he manages to dodge Kame’s fist. “Sleep, Kame-chan,” Koki says soothingly just as Kame fights down a yawn.
And Kame does, nestled comfortably under the covers with Koki’s strong, protective arms around his waist. It’s probably the best sleep he’s gotten in weeks.

“Don’t you guys have anything better to do?” Kame questions when he finds Nakamaru standing on the other side of the door.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” Nakamaru says swiftly, striding past Kame into the apartment, a few bags of take-out in hand.
“Oh, you’re getting better at this,” Kame says, amused, because Nakamaru’s usually the one who makes it obvious why any of them come by unannounced to check up on him. Not that Kame doesn’t already know, but sometimes he pretends for their benefit.
“Shut up,” Nakamaru replies, pulling out take-out boxes on the kitchen counter. He pauses, suddenly, and glances up at Kame. “You haven’t eaten yet, have you?”
Kame resists the urge to smile. He considers saying no, just to prove his point that he doesn’t need their help, he can take care of himself, thank you very much, but Nakamaru’s concerned gaze makes him cave. Like it does every time. “Luckily for you,” he says eventually, “I was just about to when you showed up.”
Nakamaru grins and says, “You could help you know.”
“I thought that’s why you were here,” Kame retorts but aids Nakamaru by getting out plates and chopsticks.
All they do is eat. Or more like Nakamaru eyes Kame as he eats, making sure Kame finishes everything on his plate and then some. Kame thinks it’s all a little ridiculous; if anyone needs to eat these days it’s Nakamaru.
“You realize if I was starving myself there wouldn’t be fans on the internet calling me fat,” Kame points out.
“Fans call you fat when you’re anorexic,” Nakamaru replies. “And I know you’re not starving yourself.”
“Then why are you here?”
“Member-ai?”
“KAT-TUN doesn’t have any of that.”
Nakamaru grins. “It’s a new movement,” he says importantly. “I’m the general, putting it into practice. I’ve learned all about it from Koyama.”
Kame smirks around his chopsticks. “I’m sure you have,” he says, his tone suggestive and it takes Nakamaru a moment before he catches on, blushing as he flings a carrot in Kame’s direction.
Kame laughs and he quickly dodges the stray carrot and they both watch as it falls to the floor a foot away from Kame’s chair. “You’re cleaning that up,” Kame says, turning back to his meal and then pausing suddenly, narrowing his eyes as he looks back up at Nakamaru. “And whoever said you would be KAT-TUN’s General?”
Nakamaru leans back in his chair, looking smug. “I’m the oldest, so clearly I should have the highest rank.”
Kame snorts. “You try telling the others that and we’ll see how it goes,” he says and laughs again when Nakamaru’s expression falls.

Taguchi’s waiting outside the jimusho when Kame walks out, nearly jumping on him to get his attention and giving Kame a heart attack.
“Don’t do that!” he exclaims, catching his breath while Taguchi just beams, completely unfazed by Kame’s glare.
“We’re going out!” Taguchi announces and before Kame can protest he’s dragging him into his awaiting car.
“Let me out,” Kame says, pulling at the door handle even though he knows it’s pointless and although the prospect of going anywhere with Taguchi is enough for Kame to want to hurl himself out of a moving car, he slumps back into his seat when Taguchi says brightly, “Nope!”
“Where are you taking me?” Kame asks instead, feeling a little like he’s being kidnapped.
“We’re going shopping,” Taguchi says and Kame groans, puts his face in his hands. “Aww, Kame,” Taguchi says, patting him on the back. “Don’t be like that! It’ll be fun.”
“I know why you’re doing this,” Kame accuses. “I’m perfectly fine, Taguchi. And I want to go home.”
“I’ll take you home,” Taguchi says and Kame perks up, “after we shop,” and Kame deflates. “Because otherwise Ueda will-” He cuts himself off but the damage is done and Kame stares beadily at him as he mutters, “So Ueda is behind all of this?”
“I said nothing,” Taguchi replies, his eyes on the road, and Kame makes a mental note to (attempt to) throttle Ueda when he sees him next.
“I don’t have a choice, then, do I?” Kame asks Taguchi.
“Not even one,” Taguchi replies.
“Fine,” Kame says. “Let’s go then. I actually have been meaning to buy new jeans.”
Taguchi smirks. “Why doesn’t that surprise me?” he says and laughs at Kame’s glower.

“So you’re to blame for all of this?” Kame greets Ueda when the older man meets him outside his apartment with one of his golden retrievers. Kame has Ran-chan up on his shoulders as usual.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” Ueda dismisses as they head down the sidewalk toward the nearest park. It’s getting warm enough to take a quick walk without freezing and clearly that’s Ueda’s plan in order to check up on Kame.
“You’re just like Nakamaru,” Kame laughs.
“Like I said, don’t know what you’re talking about,” Ueda replies. “Whatever the other’s have been doing have been their own ideas.”
Kame makes a skeptical sound and Ueda shoves at him playfully. “Really, Tacchan, I’m perfectly fine,” he tells him. “Like I’ve told the others. So can you stop acting like I’m going to break apart any second?”
“Who said anything about that?” Ueda replies. “Maybe I just want to take my dog on a walk and you happen to be available to come with me.”
“You’re impossible,” Kame says, shaking his head. “I’m still blaming you for the fact that Taguchi dragged me out shopping yesterday. For five hours.”
Ueda tries to hold back his amused laughter and fails miserably and this time Kame shoves at him, hard. He helps him quickly regain balance on his feet when Ueda nearly trips over himself, and starts to grin as Ueda continues to laugh.
“I bet you were the one dragging Taguchi around after the first two,” Ueda says and chuckles at the look on Kame’s face that tells him it’s the truth.
“Shut up,” Kame mutters. “It’s all your fault. You’re all insufferable bastards. I’m stuck in a group that doesn’t listen when someone says they’re okay.”
“Kame,” Ueda says complacently. “You don’t do anything but work.”
“That is so not true,” Kame huffs. “And besides, I like to work. This isn’t about what you think it’s about. As much as he’d like to think so, the world doesn’t revolve around him.”
Ueda eyes him like he doesn’t believe a word Kame just said. Then he smirks and replies, “I’ll tell him you said that.”
Kame chuckles. “Be my guest,” he says. “Now if we’re going on this stupid walk to distract me from my apparently exhausting work-life can we talk about something else?”
“Okay,” Ueda agrees quickly.
“Thank you,” Kame says and they both know he means it for more than just the change of topic.

“I don’t get why they think I’m going to fall apart or something,” Kame says into the phone as he dries the dishes he used for dinner.
“Maybe because you’re a fragile little princess?” Jin replies and Kame’s eyes narrow even though he knows Jin can’t see him. “They’re just worried about you.”
“Yeah, and they don’t need to be,” Kame says. “I’m perfectly fine. I’m even talking to you.”
Jin gasps dramatically. “Wait! That must mean something is wrong with you then!” Jin exclaims in a frantic voice and Kame laughs.
“How do I get them to leave me the fuck alone?” Kame questions, putting the dishes away in the cabinets and heading to his room.
There’s pause on the other end, some muffled talking and then Jin is back and says, “Why bother? They’re taking care of you, just reap the benefits.”
“I’m not you,” Kame points outs. He settles on his bed, Ran-chan jumping up to join him, and pulls his laptop over from where it's sitting on the bedside table.
“Those assholes would never do that shit for me,” Jin replies. “Maybe Nakamaru, but Ueda would just punch me and tell me to suck it up.”
Kame laughs because it’s probably true. “That’s his way of showing he cares,” he tells him and Jin snorts.
“Well, he should be nicer about it,” Jin says. “And anyway, if you want them to stop just tell them you’re okay. You know why they think you’re going to break, don’t you?”
“Yeah,” Kame says. “I know. And it’s stupid because I’ve already come clean about it. I mentioned it in an interview!”
Suddenly Jin’s voice hardens and he says furiously, “About that. What the fuck, Kame? I am not Princess fucking Vivi!”
“Could’ve fooled me,” Kame retorts easily while Jin squawks indignantly on the other side and it’s comforting, reminding Kame of every other time they’ve argued over stupid things like this. “And besides, aren’t you completely missing the point?”
“I don’t need a magazine interview to tell me how you feel. You said enough when it happened, and I’m talking to you right the fuck now,” Jin grumbles in reply and Kame shakes his head, amused.
“You are okay though, right?” Jin asks suddenly after a few seconds of silence and Kame smiles to himself as he absently checks his email.
“If I say no, are you going to fly over here to coddle me, too?” Kame questions.
“Hah,” Jin says loudly. “In your dreams, Kamenashi.”
“Always, Akanishi,” Kame teases and laughs when Jin exclaims, “Gross!” and hangs up on him.
end.
