I would like to bring this old thing back to life. Lately, I've been so caught up in ingesting as much information as quickly as possible, that I haven't has time to digest it all, let alone attempt to synthesize some of my own thoughts. You can notice that my habit of stretching out my sentences beyond reasonable length has remained. Nope, that one's not going away ever, I think.
One of the thoughts that has been brewing for a while is the similarity between the new movie Holmes and the TV show House. As Aaron has pointed out, this is not coincidental - House borrows a lot from Conan Doyle. But Guy Richie's Sherlock is infantile and manipulative in his relationships, almost psygologically quoting Hugh Laurie's character. He is needy and clingy toward Watson, openly hostile toward W.'s fiancé and carelessly brutish in his problem solving. Then there's the drug abuse, inexpert yet entertaining music-playing and I am almost surprised that this movie version of Homes is not trying to have an affair with Lestrade, who is the film version of Cuddy, the inept all-forgiving boss. In short, we have come a full circle of plagiarism: from Holmes to House and back to Holmes. With each iteration the story has become less complicated and more available for public consumption.
