Um, publishers? I think we need to talk.

Why the fuck does the current cover for Squire focus on the model's chest? For that matter, why is the cover for First Test the only one in the quartet to show the whole face? Page is focused on her sword...which is crossed over her chest. I don't even know what Lady Knight is supposed to be focused on but cropping the picture just above the model' ( Read more... )

I know! When I first saw the (new) cover of Squire I had to stop myself from ripping it off. I wanted my Kel-holding-a-griffin-and-looking-badass-and-bruised cover! A lot of the time I hate cover redesigns for any book, just because it's not what I'm used to any more and how dare they sscrew around with my books and make it so that replacement copies no longer match the rest of the set. But for the Tamora Pierce ones, I actually have legitimate complaints for...almost all of them.

Except Bloodhound. My only real complaint for that is that I prefer the picture taking up the full cover, and that now it doesn't match Terrier. And I suppose the current Alanna ones (with the black border) at least reflects the plot, even if I think she looks possessed.

But the Daine and Kel covers? Fuck that noise. Not a big fan of the Aly colors either, because they're also just the "here's a picture of a model, enjoy" version of things.

Circle covers seem to have fared better, though I haven't really gone looking. Mine don't get as much wear as the Tortall books.

The Aly covers, not colors. My fingers are clumsy today.

Yeah, changes often bug me too, but then slapping gross male-gaze-y covers on these of all the POSSIBLE THINGS, EXCUSE ME WHILST I SET THINGS ON FIRE WITH MY MIND.

And the Aly ones bug me a lot, both because of the half-face-model thing and because come on, couldn't we could have done something dramatic with Sarai and Dove as well as Aly? But no, white girl on the cover and go.

But I love the Beka covers! And I... haven't actually scene any more recent Circle ones that I can think of, at all. Huh.

The Beka covers are lovely. I just dislike changing the style mid-series. XD

And yeah, slapping that cover on THIS SERIES... After I hunt down and, y'know, be uncharacteristically violent to whoever decided on this, I just feel like asking them, "Do you even go here?" Because srsly. Of ALL THE BOOKS you could have given that cover to (not that they'd be much better), you chose THIS ONE?

I wish I could draw better covers for the books. Maybe I'll go see if I can hunt down Sarai and Dove fanart. And if there isn't any, I shall cry.

Yeah, I'm with you there. Consistency, do you speak it?

And just... yeah. Yeah. Proposed law: COVER ARTISTS MUST READ THE DAMN BOOK. Especially for re-designs when there's more time for it. Giving the authors input could help too...

Yeah, drawing is probably the skill I want to have the most. (Maybe after singing.)

At least there are some decent Sarai and Dove pictures on DA to keep me happy. Though some of the artists seem to have forgotten that they're, y'know, not white. x.x

...Oh, fandom. Feel free to change any time. Now would work. *headdesk* The books made it pretty clear that they don't take after their father, either.

To be fair, most of the art, especially the better art, seems to have remembered that. But I am side-eyeing SO HARD at the ones who managed to ignore it.

Yeah, me too; really that's the only possible response. Erk. Good thing some of it doesn't have that problem, though.

I recommend any and all of the drawings by ~Sohalias-Light if you ever go looking. Spectacular. ~Minuiko has some nice ones as well.

Thank you! I've actually been having a lot of trouble with getting DevArt to actually work, lately. Possibly listening to my computer when it tells me to update things would help.

But obeying your computer is a step towards the future where robots are our evil overlords! Ignoring update messages is part of the fight to save humanity! You're a hero! ...Or something. See, this is what happens when I don't get enough sleep. XD

Hee! I think it's just a step towards not murdering my computer, though.
