So far today I have done nothing but read the news and watched a marathon of movies featuring kidnapped children and their sad mothers on Lifetime. And, you know, I'm kind of perfectly okay with that. I'm going to borrow a habit of Wolf's and do a mini-news link spam 'cause some of the stuff I've read today has been pretty interesting/cool.
http://www.cnn.com/video/?/video/bestoftv/2011/02/04/ac.report.notebook.cnn - A short video of my boo, Anderson Coop, reporting poetically on the situation in Egypt. Every night this week, Allison's flipped the TV to CNN around midnight, and Andy's been on, reporting live from Egypt. Every night since he and his crew were roughed up, he's been reporting from a different location. It's worrisome how journalists are being attacked - and my A-Coop got off easy.
The first journalist death was confirmed today And others, like this one Swedish reported who was stabbed in the stomach, are getting seriously injured. Much as I love A-Coop, I wish the US media would report on the other more severe attacks on the freedom of press. Instead, we get idiots like Rush Limbaugh making fun of it. (Nope.
Not kidding.)
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2011/02/05/AR2011020501596.html - In which Egypt makes me go, “Oh snap!”
http://community.livejournal.com/ontd_political/7679994.html The article linked in this post is all about the differences in audiences for game shows around the world, and how some will root for the game show contestant while others will purposefully try to trick them. It's an intriguing thing to think about, and toooootally could be someone's thesis work. I should suggest it to Allison, actually. She needs to come up with a topic for her thesis sooner than later.
Speaking of money, this article about a dude who cracked the scratch-card lottery games code makes wish I was better at math.
http://www.wired.com/magazine/2011/01/ff_lottery/all/1 It's also interesting to read about the history of the lottery - apparently lotteries were used to help fund Harvard and Yale? And then there's the fact that it's highly likely people are already scamming local state lotteries very successfully. - especially to launder money.
A song that express your feeling towards school.
Oh, that's just not fair. They change so often, and you know, I've been in school my entire life. You're going to have to narrow it down for me. I mean, my feelings about Hollins and my feelings about me education at Hollins are vastly different - let along the differences between my high school and college experiences. Ah well though.

What do you do with a B.A. in English,
What is my life going to be?
Four years of college and plenty of knowledge,
Have earned me this useless degree.
I can't pay the bills yet,
'Cause I have no skills yet,
The world is a big scary place.
But somehow I can't shake,
The feeling I might make,
A difference,
To the human race.
This is universally applicable, I think, to anyone teetering near the edge of graduation, and you know. I am kind of terrified of leaving academia.
