Okay, hello everyone. I just joined this comm, and I foresee so much fun and giggly moments within these "walls." I mean, how can you go wrong with Adina????
My brain focuses on inappropriate things at strange moments, as I'm sure many of you can relate to. Today I had an "Adina" moment, and this seems the perfect place to share it. And yes, when I'm done, you can all laugh at me and roll your eyes, just don't kick me out of here! lol This really is lame, and I can't believe I'm allowing THIS to be the first impression you all get of me.
So I'm currently enrolled in a Medical Transcription course. I was studying today for a test on the digestive system. As I was going through the list of root words and combining forms, I came across the following root:
aden-
I immediately thought of Adina, or Adena as it is spelled in the movie. The root means "gland." I got a giggle over that one. Aden=Gland.
So then, being the totally geeky and obsessed-with-etymology freak that I am, I looked up the actual definition of "gland" (even though I already know it, basically). Here is what I found:
gland--any of various organs or structures resembling the shape but not the function of true glands
And that completely had me rolling. Because what is Adina if not a true shape-but-not-function? She "resembles the shape" of a woman, but does not truly "function" as one. If you catch my drift.
Um. Yeah. Told you it was lame.
But this is how my brain works. Forgive me.
