Lewis is right, I have been writing only a handful of sentences in every blog entry I've posted recently.  Sorry you guys (to anyone that reads my lj anymore).

Well the only update I can really think of letting you guys in on is how work is going for me.  If we have to get technical, I work as an assistant for one of the staff in the Special Archives Department at the Social Science Library on campus.  I do paging, shelving and locating books, filing, typing stuff up, etc.  You get the picture.   I started working last Thursday.  Right away I knew the library catalog was going to be a pain to learn and to locate stuff from.  It's been Day 3, I got used to the system, but I still secretly loathe it if things are misplaced.  I couldn't find a fraction of the books I was supposed to page from the Early European section.  This job is going to make me rather particular about things in alphabetical or numerical order outside of my shifts...if not, I'm going to end up being super anal about organizing crap.  Not that I already am picky about things like that, but still.

Oh yeah, I do have to mention that the coolest part of my job is that I get to handle books that date back to about the 1600s.  Everything in the back is super fragile and the rooms have to be temperature regulated.  I discovered Disney made a whole bunch of magazines for their fans back in the day.  I think it was centered for Disneyland vacations, according to the magazine I took a peek at, but I don't really know.  Today I found a book written by Rousseau, I never fail to be surprised at the stuff that we have.   It reminded me of an article I read a while back about old books being covered with human skin, well all the old books reminded me of it, not Rousseau's book.  As creepy as skin covered books sounds, I wonder how old that dated back till.  I cringe a bit when I'm around the really brittle books, because if some are really made of human skin, I probably dusted a chunk load of dead skin off the shelves.

Walking up and down the endless aisles of books, magazines, envelopes, and boxes kinda makes things a blur.   I enjoy the workload and I have time to squeeze some reading in for class, so I'm not complaining.  It's hella quiet, even if it's the 5th floor and it's not exactly open to all of the public, but I don't mind it either.  For a first job, it's not so bad.
