It's been a while since i was able to squeeze in some time to write anything in this spot. Between my English, and Math, have been a bit busy.
My first math test was a 76% a real dissapointment to me. I should not have underestimated the intricacies of Algerbra. I studied like a madman this week, and I'm sure I did much better, probably in the mid to high 80's. The problem with this is I had the audacity to try and cram a 16 week course in to 5 weeks over the summer, after having been out of school for 20+ years.
I'm going for the upper 90's on this weeks test.
English has it's own trials and tribulations. My teacher is a bigot, of the typical upper middle income variety. I guess a classist would be a better term, as it seems she is affronted by an ex drug addict, with a 5th grade education being able to write in a better manner (on paper) than all of her little cronies. Her insults via innuendo and undertone are grating, at best. At worst, I've walked out of the class. I've fired back a few times, but whats the use, you can't communicate to that sort of person any better than you could a rock or a well programmed computer. I will give credit where credit is due; as subjective as a reading evaluation is, she has only taken a few points off of my papers, and been only slightly harder on me in terms of evaluations of my reports than her obvious favorites in class. My paper slammed in at a 90, and am still waiting on the second, which I get back on Monday. I expect this to be in the low 80's, if not lower, as it had a few errors in typing, and the theme itself was cut short (see Two Girls From Austen).
This grade directly follows a coment she made about my character and appearance; via innuendo, at which I fired back in front of the class, via the same method, and called her a racist, a bigot, and then insulted her own writing ability. From the flush on her face, and the wave of high school giggles hat followed, I'm sure I was able to hit my mark. Too bad, for me each score I made will probably be taken off my paper. Principles, or grades? I chose principles. At worst, because of my ability when I'm not farting around, I'll get a "C" or, a 2.5 or higher GPA. I can live with that as it's my only English pre-requisite.
Other than that, the garden is growing well, the yard looks like somone gives a damn, and the house has come together a bit. Seems the more I have to do, the more I actually get accomplished. My oldest has taken it on herself to learn multiplication tables, and has had good success up through 5,as in 5*1 - 5*12. The youngest is trying to read on her own, but I am trying to find a way to let her know she doesnt have to be like me or her sister, we love her anyways. Without turning her off the reading that is. Her talents lie more with physical arts, like drawing, painting;even her little constructs of mud, twigs and pebbles are more than I might accomplish. She's chiming in with the multiplication as well, but is'nt doing the focused study like her sister. She does have a natural knack for math, which makes her sister a bit jealous. School is the oldest's pride, if the youngest starts getting attention for doing well, the world will burst in to flames and the universe might well end.
This is the news from the home front, for any of you idjits listening out there.
