I took my first beginner series class yesterday at Cat's Corner. It was great! The dance floor was smaller than I expected, but somehow we were able to fit 20 students there. Unlike other free classes I have taken, we started off with the Charleston in our first class! I know the basic Charleston step, but it was fun to learn more variations to it. The teachers added the Yo-yo charleston for both leads and follows, so it provided the right amount of challenge for me. On several occasions, people have commented that they thought I have been dancing for years, or that they thought I had danced lindy hop for years and then returning to re-learn after a few years of gap, but I am really just a beginner like them. Frankly, sometimes, I also didn't know if I was doing things correctly during the open social dance. I just know that most of the time, i mirror the lead, and i follow where their hand leads me. I'm excited to learn more next week.
