Margaret McDonald Phillips

Feb 24, 2010 22:09

Margaret McDonald Phillips painted this.
It's one of my favorite paintings, although, mine is only a print that once belonged to the Grannie of my guy Marshall.I put it in this antique frame. It seems impossible to find any examples of this artist’s work on the internet, so I am happy to contribute this portrait of a cat by her.
PLEASE….
If anyone has any leads to more of her cat portraits please contact me to tell me where I can see them!

Artist, Margaret McDonald Phillips (American, New York/Massachusetts, 1910 -1978 )
Head of portrait-painting department for the New York Phoenix School of Design.
Phillips was best known for her portraits, which included such subjects as Indira Gandhi, later president of India, and former President Richard M. Nixon.
She was also known for her portraits of cats, many commissioned by friends.

Thanks to Dale who found this post, I've finally gotten to see another cat portrait by Margaret McDonald Phillips! Looks like mine was part of a set by the matching backgrounds. I suppose these two cats knew each other. With his kind permission I'm sharing the photos he sent below!
