Right now I'm right where I wanna be. I've never felt so loved, so peaceful and so free. Hey there ain't no doubt that God's been good to me. [keith urban]
When I finally slough off the morning slumber, I remember that I’m going to work and I perk up a bit. I listen to my country music as the sun rises over the Blue Ridge, and I arrive at school ready to work and see what my kids have in store for me. Next Monday I get all my new students, on top of the 22 AP kids that I team-teach, I will have 29 students in each of two classes- English 12 and English 12 Honors. They’re mine, all mine…. muhaha. I start my week off with Monday Night Dinner (formerly the Monday Lunch) Crew at one of our apartments. Home-made dinner, school/student stories, griping, and giggling about our days. Then, on Fridays we finish our week with Teacher Book Study at Chili’s Happy Hour promptly at 4 p.m. That means we study the menu, put it away, and start to count our $2 draft pints for a few hours. Though I went with AJ, Ellen, and Kat, we saw Jim, Tom, Jules, Shannon, and other teachers in our program as well. This week we also continued our drinking by heading to Jim’s for VH1’s “I love the 90s,” pong, and drinking games. I’m now known as Air Force Amy… if you don’t know the reference, don’t worry about it. The name is ironic, but also not really because when it came time for me to make a rule, it involved articles of clothing. Ha, so there were AJ and I on the couch in less clothing than when he left and I thought he’d crap his pants with anxiety and surprise. (For those counting, that was drinking from 4-6.30 and 9-12.) Oih… but we laughed, a lot. Kim also joined us at Jim’s and I’m proud to say that she is now a regular amongst the teachers… join our club, Kimbo. As it was supposed to snow a whole lot (alright, a “whole lot” in Virginia terms, not Northerner terms), I got up early to get breakfast and run some errands. By 11 it was a winter wonderland, and I was ready to stay in all day. The snow stopped by 2, and I trekked to AJ’s. Three and a half hours later and Tres Hombre later, I came back home to a home-baked lasagna by Joel. Kim and I (loyal //panoramic fans) gathered the troops and went to the CD release show at TDU. So fantastic, so many fans. A wonderful turnout for great guys. Got home at 9 and began to get our drink on because we celebrated Kim’s 21st birthday. After some tallying, we realized that we had probably invited 50 people, so we had to grab a few extra cases. Wearing our house tees, Lauren, Kim, Kate, and I schmoozed, played, drank, smoked, and danced our little butts off into the wee hours. Nice surprises: Chad came up with his brother!!
For pictures, refer to my profile and check the “Student Teaching” album.
Glenn texted me, but I haven’t returned it via text or call. Isn’t it amazing when you free yourself from someone and suddenly you can see again?? My blinders are off and the view is good. I was ready for this this time, last time… I wasn’t and I was miserable even though it was self-inflicted. Life goes on and it will only make me stronger.
PS- I have a SNOW DAY tomorrow even though we only have like 2 inches of snow... I love the country mountain roads for making that difficult. :)
