Pacemaker fun

Dec 02, 2006 20:51

I had my 3-monthly check of my pacemaker yesterday; it's been normally 2 in a row on the phone then one in person. Well, yesterday's check was in person. I was chatting with the tech about how well my battery has held up (it's been 8 1/2 years) while he was setting up the testing gear - a simple donut this time, with a magnet which fit inside. He got quiet after a minute, and said "I'm going to call it. Your voltage is down to 2.49 and your impedance is up to 12 ohms". Apparently the battery is fixin' to fail. I have an appointment this next Tue with the heart specialist who has been overseeing my pacemaker, largely to meet him and also to schedule replacement of the unit. It's to be done in day surgery, as far as I know, and is relatively uninvolved.

That's all the news thats fit to print!
