Major TransLink overhaul going ahead

I'm not totally against reorganization, but this proposal has some holes.

So cities would be unable to do their own municipal planning where translink has a stake? All the majors, instead of council, will be setting direction on density around transit projects. And 30 major is a huge board. Vancouver should have a say in Surrey's transit and density planning, but Hope? Bedroom communities for Vancouver like Squamish yes, but not Hope!

And why should the small cities decide if they want in? Then you have to play to their interests. Any community being commuted to and reaching a certain level of trade activity should be included, period. I don't know if Chilliwack is currently, but they need to be in on regional transit planning, cuz far too many people are just sprawling there.

I didn't think the current board does day to day operations anyways; the board is mayors who have their own cities to coordinate.

politics, transit
