SEX!

Amazingly enough, this post is actually about sex. Or more accurately, about one aspect of our attitude to it.

It's something I find quite amusing, that open-minded parents are usually pretty accepting of the fact that their kids will, at some point, be having sex. It is perfectly natural for people to have sex, after all. And yet, teenagers and even young adults will get totally freaked out at the idea of their parents "doing it"!

Even if their kids turn out to be gay, in this day and age most open minded parents will eventually come to terms with the fact that their son is buggering and/or being buggered by some other guy (to put it crudely), or that their daughter is licking out and/or being licked out by some other girl. For the majority of parents (lets face it, homosexuals are still in a minority) it is simply required of them to accept the fact that, sooner or later, their son or daughter will end up doing exactly what the parents did in order to create the son/daughter.

And yet for the kid to accept that their parents still do what they had to have done to bring the kid into being for some reason is a lot harder.

Why this should be, escapes me. After all, it is possible, from the parents' point of view, that the child may never succumb to the urge and may never have sex. Unlikely, but possible. Whereas, from the child's point of view, the parents have already had sex at least once, or the child wouldn't exist.

Of course, I could be talking out of my arse, but I don't think I am. I'm reasonably sure that mine and Connie's experience with her daughter is not unique. I think Krista has finally come to terms with the fact that Connie and I have a fulfilling physical relationship in our mid forties, but I think to talk about it would still provoke the same reaction, quote: "I'm going to scrub my brain with wire wool dipped in acid".

On the other hand, Connie was very open minded and liberal with her daughter's sexual activities, and she and I have no problems talking about any of this - the fact that she read some of this post over my shoulder and chuckled bears witness to that.

Anyone else found the same thing?

family, sex
