My wife is so clever!
Connie brought some work home over the weekend. Yes, they are paying her overtime for it (Time and a half at least. They should really pay double time for the 3½ hours she did yesterday, but we'll see.)
So, she kind-of hogged the computer most of the weekend - of course I was working Saturday anyway. The reason she brought work home was because they are doing year-end and it over-ran - something about the reconciliation not balancing...? (If you have no idea what that means, don't worry, nor do I). She brought home a memory stick with about four million spreadsheets on it (well, four hundred, maybe) on Friday, and I watched her going through them, adding things up, changing some figures, moving, copy/pasting... Quite honestly, I didn't even know what I was looking at, there's no way I'd be able to figure out what was wrong with the figures...
Anyway, my dear wife got the discrepancy down from around half a million to about five hundred pounds! She rang her boss early Sunday afternoon to say this and ask if they could just write that amount off. The boss said that was okay and so we settled to enjoy the afternoon.
And then, suddenly, she's back on the computer... "OH! I've got it!" And bingo, that £500 discrepancy gets reconciled back to zero!
I am so impressed!
Actually, I know just enough about accounting to be impressed, I know what she was trying to achieve, I just have no idea how she did it...
