A fox went out one chilly night
Prayed for the moon for to give him light,
He'd many a mile to go that night
Before he reached the town-oh, town-oh, town-oh,
He'd many a mile to go that night
Before he reached the town-oh.
He ran 'til he came to a great big pen.
The ducks and the geese were put therein.
"A couple of you will grease my chin
Before I leave this town-oh, town-oh, town-oh,
A couple of you will grease my chin
Before I leave this town-oh".
He grabbed a grey goose by the neck,
Flung a duck across his back.
He didn't mind the "Quack-quack-quack"
And the legs all dangling down-oh, down-oh, down-oh
He didn't mind the "Quack-quack-quack"
And the legs all dangling down-oh.
Old Mrs Pepperpotter jumped out of bed,
She opened the window and she popped out her head.
She cried "John, John, the grey goose is gone
And the fox is on the town-oh, town-oh, town-oh,
John, John, the grey goose is gone
And the fox is on the town-oh".
John he went to the top of the hill.
Blowed his horn both loud and shrill.
Fox he said "I better flee with my kill
For they'll soon be on my trail-oh, trail-oh, trail-oh".
Fox he said "I better flee with my kill
For they'll soon be on my trail-oh".
At last he came to his cosy den.
There were the little ones, eight, nine, ten.
They said "Dad you better go back again
For it must be a mighty fine town-oh, town-oh, town-oh".
They said "Dad you better go back again
For it must be a mighty fine town-oh".
The fox and his wife without any strife
Cut up the goose with a fork and a knife.
They'd never had such a supper in their life,
And the little ones chewed on the bones-oh, bones oh, bones-oh
They'd never had such a supper in their life,
And the little ones chewed on the bones-oh.
No, I don't know why I posted that, except that it's a fun little song that just popped into my head this morning and I wanted to see if I could remember it. I only had to look up one line, so I'm pretty impressed with myself.
