A DVD I ordered for myself a week ago arrived today in the post. This could well be the only present I'm going to get this xmas. On the other hand, I know what it is and I want to watch it...
I could go up and spend xmas with my sister - and I'm sure she'd be happy to have me, but it's a 400 mile drive. That means staying over, which is inconvenient because she's got nowhere for me to sleep so I'd be on a camp-bed on the floor. Then I'd have to drive home again the next day. 800 mile round trip.
Now, I know I'm doing about 1000 miles a week at the moment, but my car is having some major mechanical problems right now. It needs a new wheel bearing on the back, it needs two new tyres on the front, it needs new brake pads, it probably needs an oil change, it may need new spark plugs... Basically it needs a full service and some additional repairs.
The less driving I can do with it in this condition, the better, quite frankly!
This is not the first xmas I've spent on my own, I was alone last year too. I didn't even bother putting my tree up last year. I seem to remember being invited to dinner at my ex's place. This year I'm feeling all christmassy, and I've got my tree up. I shall buy myself a steak... Rather than have "The world's smallest turkey" (Lyrics from a song, The Waitresses - Christmas Wrapping).
