Ok, first of all, some ground rules...
This is just for fun. See how many of the lyrics you can identify. There are fifty. You get one point for the song and another for the original artist. There are actually very few covers in there, as far as I'm aware.
Post your answers here. All comments are screened so you can't crib anyone else's answers. I will unscreen them in a few days, (possibly on xmas day) with your score out of 100, and post the answers at the same time.
Now, I realise that I can't stop people from using the internet to look up the lyrics, but strictly that's cheating. However, if there's no prize involved, the only person you are cheating is yourself. It's a bit like cheating at solitaire!
What I would ask is, if you do use a search engine to look up the answer, put a little (s) is brackets after your answer. If you do that I will give you two scores, your searched score and your unsearched score. Obviously, the idea is to do as much as you can from your own knowledge of music.
Some questions are much harder than others, in my opinion, but of course, the ones I think are hard, you might think are easy and vice versa. The lyrics are not always the first line of the song!
One small clue: Each artist appears only once (I think... I need to check that).

Feel free to copy this idea and make your own quiz. You can, of course use the same songs, but it would be a good idea to use a different lyric if you do. Oh, and make sure you don't use a lyric that has the song title in... ;)
[Edit]
I thought I'd put in a quick update:
jadedmyrrhmaid is in the lead so far with 46%.
hooloovoo is second with 39%,
kestral_ is third with 35%.
I'm being quite strict with marking these. There is only one that's perhaps a little unfair because although the song was first a hit for the band I'm thinking of, back in 1973, it was in fact a folk song that they set to a rock arrangement. So, if anyone can come up with an earlier hit than that I will allow it - but they do have to be sure!
Oh, and if you accidentally type in the wrong number (I'm looking your way
hooloovoo), that is your own fault and the answer is wrong!
[Edit 2]
Oooh dear... I just realised something. I've had to deduct one mark each from Jaded and Kes... You need to be ACCURATE with the name of the artist!
