I haven't posted lately.
The reason being, a) I've been busy, and b) I've not had much to say. I'm quite sure you good people don't really want a day-by-day account of everything I've been doing. Work is still progressing. I'm getting better at the pitches I'm doing although I've still not found that second deal yet. Last week I had an absolutely shit week - it was so bad I was considering quitting at one point. I didn't quit, because that's the way I am. If something is getting the better of me I'll quit, get depressed and then get angry and then get logical and go back to it all fired up to carry on and finish it!
On Friday, the branch manager, Jason, tried to teach us some new ways of closing. He was rather stymied by the fact that I was the only one who seemed to know the closing script! He would recite a bit of the script - from memory - and ask one of the others to repeat it back, and they would get it wrong! I have no idea how they could possibly get it wrong, when he'd just recited it to them!
I guess I have a big advantage when it comes to this script thing. Firstly, the way my brain works, it seems to be very good at recognising patterns and remembering them. (Actually, combine this with the fact that I have problems relating to people and problems recognising faces sometimes... It makes me wonder if I might be ever-so-slightly autistic? I don't know. I doubt it...) Add to the above a habit I have of rehearsing conversations to myself - either conversations I've already had, or conversations I want to have - something I used to think of as a bad habbit that I wanted to break, and you have the perfect vehicle for learning the script!
I could probably type 90% of it out right now from memory, if I wanted to. Don't panic, I wont!
Anyway, everyone had a shitty week last week. The weekend was better, but leads were few and far between. "Like rocking-horse shit", as Jason so colourfully puts it! (Cultural note - not sure if you have them over there in the USA, but a rocking-horse in the UK is a wooden, plastic or metal model of a horse mounted on rockers like a rocking chair, designed for a child to sit on and ride). Tuesday to Thursday, I didn't get a single pitch. Friday, Saturday and Sunday I managed to pitch about half the leads.
Today is a public holiday in the UK (except Scotland). August Bank Holiday is the day that people traditionally go to the seaside and sit in the car in a torrential downpour all day, or alternatively, spend the entire day sitting in the car in a 40-mile traffic jam on the motorway in blistering heat. Either way, they never actually get out of the car!
I'm just glad I'm not going anywhere.
I do have something important to do though... I need to do my tax-return for this year today, so I can get it to them by September 1st. (I also need to do last years, which I've been putting off for a year. Naughty boy!)
Yesterday I bought a DVD of a classic film that I've been looking for for ages. Twelve Angry Men, staring Henry Fonda. I've seen the end of the film twice, but never seen the beginning. It's an absolute classic. I'm going to watch it as a reward for getting the tax returns done!
Oh well... better get on with it!
