Well, that ends a surreal week of teaching. By the end, there were but 7 or 8 gaunt, hollow-eyed plague survivors in each of my classes. As for the rest, well, the dysentery took most of ‘em. The wombats ate the remainder.
Seriously though, it got to be ridiculous. I literally did nothing productive this week, on account of the epidemic (remember, not H1N1, just Flu Original Flavor). In one class I told the kids to draw, and then joined them. In another, we played that most educational of games: Heads Up 7-Up. The worst part is that about 4 of my class periods were cancelled outright by the school. But even though it wasn’t my fault, I’ll be expected to make those classes up. Is that fair? I don’t think so. I’m not gonna say I wanted to teach those classes, but I was certainly ready and able.
Actually, the the real downer about this week is that it was supposed to be the test. So basically, about half of the kids in each class have taken the test, and as for the rest, well, god willing they’ll be back at least by next Wednesday.
So, till next time, this is a rather discombobulated Ignorant Westerner, saying再见
teaching,
metaphors,
the plague
