I got LASIK yesterday. It was weird.
The actual surgery part was really weird. I felt like the guy at the end of 'Fire in the Sky' when he is in that gooey pod and he has goo all over his eyes and can't see.
I laid down on a table. They taped my eyelids open. Then they braced them open with some kind of speculum type of thing. All the while I'm staring straight up at a circle of light with a red laser dot in the middle. They gave me some pain numbing drops. Then they put a weird thing on my eye that kinda sucked my eye up, I could feel the suction. Then I heard the noise of a machine pushing a razor cutting open the lens of my eye. The doctor pulled the machine off, peeled my lens back and then I was looking out of my eye without the lens there. It was extremely foreign and weird. The laser zapped me for about 30 seconds, the doc closed the flap. Then the doc wiped off the lens of my eye and that was it. They did the second eye and then I was done.
I sat up and immediately could see better. My vision was still cloudy and blurry up close, but I could see things kinda far from me that I wouldn't have been able to see without contacts or eyeglasses. Today I went back for a post-op check up. Before the LASIK, my vision was about 20/400. Today my vision is almost 20/10. It's fucking great.
Ha, ha. I have laser eyes!
