Mr. Simon Greenpants has kindly requested that I wait until he's done with his mojo molt completely before I post photos of him online for everyone to see. He's self-conscious about what his bird friends might say when they see him looking not at his best as usual. Having said that, I'm thankful that this molt seems to be slowly coming to an end and I simply cannot believe how many feathers he's lost! It's like I can construct a whole new Simon just out of his molted feathers. His new tail feathers are looking especially gorgeous and his coloring is vivid and beautiful. I do attribute a great deal of it to the AviX Sunshine Factor I've been mixing into their dinners daily. Even his beak which was a bit paler before is now incredibly deep orange/yellow and his feathers are even more shiny and brilliant than before.
He loves his new house, especially when I allow him to fly throughout and up to the loft where he sits for hours on end and talks to himself, sings, screams and deliberates the varying degrees of light as the Sun passes over the sky. He loves his new huge cage (the same kind as Kiwi's only black - which looks classy with the light green kitchen I might add) and loves causing mischief and havoc all around the house. He's simply a joy to have around.
After we moved to the much bigger space, Simon's sexual frustration toward Kiwi diminished greatly. It seems with added space, more room to exercise and fly and a general feeling of openness the hormones subsided. This was really a relief as he was getting truly overbearing at the apartment and keeping them separated was causing him to overpreen his feathers which became scraggly and thin. He never pulled any, however.
The other day he reached his peak weight at 401 grams. He usually averages 380. The average weight for the Solomon Island Eclectus tends to be between 370g and 410g.
Right now he's retired to his cage and is sleeping with his head tucked back. Occasionally he'll awaken and call out in that sweetheart loving voice of his to Kiwi and myself in the family room across the way, "hey... where you go?" or "you okay?" and even the heart-melting, "I love you... good girrrl." He will only say that to me. Everyone else is "good boy" and it's truly amazing that he differentiates between myself and the other males in the house (except for Ginger the cat) and knows that I'm a female even though I'm human. He's only ever heard me say, "whadda good girrrl," to Tori. I love him so much and I am so incredibly overjoyed that he is in my life.
