Update. Rant. Reflect. Lather. Rinse. Repeat.

Time for a rant, brought to you by late-night Enterprise reruns on the WB.

Yes, folks, it's true, I am a trekkie. And I'm not even ashamed of it. [Wait, that sounds familiar. I think I have made this confession here before. By now you know all of my secrets. Twice over].

However, that said, the last few series have left something to be desired. TNG was completely adequate, although highly lame at times (in that special way that only Star Trek can be), but I never really got into Deep Space Nine or Voyager. I had high hopes for Enterprise, however, since Scott Bakula is the (although older now) cute hottie from Quantum Leap [Another cheesy show I am also not ashamed of liking].

But yeah, Enterprise pretty much blows. The writing isn't even all that horrible, but as a whole the series is misguided. Which brings me to the subject proper of this rant: WHAT IS UP WITH THE LAME-ASS THEME SONG TO THIS SHOW? I mean, seriously. Even if you got people to tune in in the first place, after the first few bars of this crapfest of a song they would be hitting the buttons on the remote before you could say "Jolene Blalock's breasts." Which apparently is exactly what happened. It's no wonder that it got cancelled last year; I'm amazed it lasted as long as it did.

Of course, since I was pretty much channel-less is Indiana, it is only now that I am cringing through the series in syndication. It's really kind of a let down since it comes on right after 24 in syndication. I go from being all hot and bothered by the Kiefer and a decent plot into being bored and disappointingly NOT hot and bothered by anything Enterprise has to offer. Talk about anti-climactic.

And so, as someone else said recently, I heart Wikipedia. Here is info. about crappy theme song swiped from there:

The series' theme song, a pop song written by Diane Warren and sung by Russell Watson, was a marked contrast to the sweeping instrumental themes used in all other Star Trek series. It was also the first such theme not to have been composed specially for Star Trek, having previously appeared (performed by Rod Stewart) in the film Patch Adams (1998). Like other aspects of the series, the theme song polarized Trekkies, with many loving the song and many considering it inappropriate for a Star Trek series. A new, more upbeat arrangement of the theme song was introduced with the third season, but this had no impact on the controversy, except to elicit criticism from some who liked the original one.

Diane Warren? Patch Adams? Give me a fucking break. Everyone at Paramount should be fired.

P.S. I drink my coffee black 99.9% of the time, but I think I am going to go crazy tonight and put in cream and sugar. It just feels right.

P.P.S. OOOOOH-- the crew of the Enterprise just met the Borg for the very first time! There is no end to the excitement this night has to offer.
