To Live and ? in L.A.

Mattycub asked: What's something you miss about living in LA? Do you think SF is the place for you?

I can honestly say that I totally miss the film culture in LA. It was great being around so many friends that had such an interest in movies with excursions to the Arclight or the Egyptian or Hollywood Forever for movies on summer evenings... As well as all the previews and premieres and tours of backlots.

I do find it weird that I had to move back to SF in order to make short films. I'm sure that boggles people's minds down there. But I wasn't making any money down there and the things about LA that bothered me weighed ever heavier on me once I stopped working in the film industry.

I have no doubt that someday I'll be back in LA. I mean, if I can make some sort of entertainment career work out, anyway. Maybe that means I have doubt...

I lived in SF for 5 years before moving to LA and I'll tell you that I never felt more at home anywhere. San Francisco really is magical and beautiful in ways that only cities like London or New York have ever come close to in my experience. Beautiful architecture, rich history, interesting and eccentric people and probably the only place in California with perfect weather... Like something along the lines of actual seasons! (Even though someone exchanged winter for summer at one point).

I wish I could follow all my dreams right here in SF, but it seems like there's always going to be a tension between SF and LA for my career choices. Maybe if I make it big enough, I can have a place in both cities?

Ask me a question and I'll respond to you before the end of the month... You can even ask anonymously if you like.
