WHAT HAPPENED AT SPELLBOUND ON SAT 19 JUN 2010!
In which Spellbound became a TV star! For much of the night, a crew from ITV filmed the Spellbound crowd strutting their stuff in the Studio Bar for a forthcoming show called Four Parties (probably to be broadcast on one of their lesser cable channels, we dunno). It's a kind of birthday equivalent of Come Dine With Me, we think, and one of the participants, a girl called Lydia, chose to celebrate her 21st at Spellbound y'see.

Reactions to being thrust into the spotlight varied from “Aargh, get that camera out of my face!” to “Aaah, get out of my way, I want to be on camera!”, and there's no doubt that certain show-off Spellbounders LOVED the camera (and vice-versa), but we hope the rest of you didn't find it all too intrusive. We reckon it'll be a positive thing for the club to be on telly (it certainly can't do us any harm), or at least, the results should be pretty funny. Look out for 'Four Parties' in the TV schedules, and if we hear about it, we'll be sure to inform you.

The birthday visitors kept asking for some swing music, even though Spellbound is pretty explicitly an 80s night, and the best we could do was “Right Now” by The Creatures and “Goody Two Shoes” by Adam Ant, but we drew the line when this conversation happened...

Girl: “Are you going to play any Michael Jackson?”
Simon: “No, this is an alternative 80s night.”
Girl: “Well, there's a bunch of people over there who aren't very alternative...”

To make up for the disruption, we rewarded your patience at the end with a never-to-be-repeated extra. For the first and last time, by popular demand, we played another song after our normal finale of “Say Hello, Wave Goodbye”. Kate Bush seemed to hit the spot, and a stream of happy drunks staggered out onto Gardner St shouting out “I'm all yours, Babooshka, Babooshka, ya ya...”

To jog your snakebite-addled memories, you can see a selection of this month’s best pics at our Myspace (see link at the top of this bulletin), and the full gallery at our Facebook group (ditto).

Oh, and we should let you know that the next Spellbound is TONIGHT (i.e. Sat 17th July). And it's gonna be amazing!
