I think the show was kind of like a Japanese version of Hollywood Squares, used by less-than-superstars to keep some kind of exposure, and maybe plug whatever they're doing at the time. There are a lot of those kinds of shows.

Yes. Even moreso that she would turn to the camera and yell "YO!" at regular intervals times during her rap.
