I wish I didn't read this on my phone but hopefully I can still leave a decent reply. Maybe I can expand later when I'm not on my phone.

I can relate to this a lot. In fact, I had a lot of those depressed feelings after Idol ended last season and so few people responded to me compared to what I had been getting. The reality was probably that they were just too busy. In the end it was part of what caused me to step away from LJ for a while.

I do need to experience people better than just text based. It's why I spend so much money travelling the world to meet my online friends in person. Skype is a good temporary substitute, though. I like being able to see facial expressions and body language to determine how the person I'm talking to is feeling. Without Skype, I don't know that I'd even be able to maintain the relationship I have with my boyfriend. I think being able to talk and see each other like that really enabled us to fall as hard as we did. Text only makes it harder to read the correct tone into what someone says. It's easier to assume someone is ignoring you when that's not actually the case. I try to use benefit of the doubt for such things but it's not always easy.

But nothing beats being able to give someone a proper hug.
