"This is a really nice place you have," Morticia stretched out before pulling one of her legs up on the couch. She fiddled with the remote, switching between channels. "I like this couch too. It's really comfy."
"Thank you. Most of the stuff in here is from the dump or second-hand stores, so I'm surprised it is in good condition."
"You'd be surprised at what treasures you can find at a thrift store, Gabe. Not everyone can afford to shop at those high-end stores you usually go to."
"Used to go to, my dear. I can't afford them anymore."
"Morticia?"
"Yeah?" Morticia answered, not bothering to look away from the television. "What is it?"
"...is Morrigan really that sick?" Morticia gave Gabe a side glance before turning off the television. She looked down at the carpet, kicking her feet playfully.
"...Uh-huh..."
"She was doing okay for a while there...but then she got ahold of the flu and just never got better again."
"What did the doctors say?"
"They say there's nothing they can do to help her anymore. They say she should try to enjoy the remaining time she has."
"That's it? That's all she can do?"
"Ryu wanted to fight them, force them to continue the treatment but Morrigan told him it was okay."
"She said she was ready to go, if it was what God wanted."
"Morrigan's always like that, though, isn't she? She never wants to be a bother to anyone."
"Yeah."
"So did Ryu actually listen to her?"
"What do you think?"
"...No?"
"Mmhm. He's taken it upon himself to treat her. That's why he said it was best if I found somewhere else to stay. With Morrigan sick and him working to cure her, he said I'd be left unattended."
"I told him I'm big enough to take care of myself but he wouldn't hear of it. So I told him I'd stay with some friends."
"He didn't know about Damien?"
"If he did, do you think he would've let me out of the house?"
"Ryu has some messed up morals, huh? You're not allowed to date an older guy because you're a minor yet it is perfectly okay for him to knock boots with his half-sister."
"I actually think it is kinda cute. I mean...it wasn't until two years ago that they even knew they were related. None of us knew about Ryu. And they really love each other. Can it be so wrong?"
"According to most folk, ch'yeah."
"But what do you believe?"
"Eh..."
"Eh?"
"I guess you're right. They really do love each other, more than anyone else I know. And it isn't like they're full brother and sister. It's just a bit weird. If they get married, that'd make Ryu my half-brother AND brother-in-law."
"You act as if we aren't already suited for Jerry Springer."
"True."
As the night grew on, the two retired upstairs. Morticia sat awake on her side of the bed, staring at her brother. He had fallen asleep quickly, if his snores were any indication. She nudged him slightly, making sure he was completely asleep. When he didn't respond, she shook her head and turned onto her stomach, pushing her side against him.
"Goodnight, dork."
