Kyle had hoped off of the bus a few blocks away. He knew he was late, but not by much at least.
As he looked over the outside of the club, he didn't spot Kit or Alison anywhere.
“Damn,” He muttered to himself as he approached the entrance. He would have to go inside alone.
Music poured out from the building next to him. Dance music... he cringed just a little bit before continuing on.
Why couldn't they have waited, he wondered. They knew he would have to take a transit here.
Kyle felt a twitch roll down his spine. His stomach growled with his nerves. Quickly he brushed the bangs from his eyes as he walked up to the door.
There was no bouncer. No line of excited people. That's usually what is supposed to be expected when a club first opens, right?
The only two individuals outside were a couple chatting near the door.
This was it... he set his hand on the door and slowly turned the knob. The loud funk sound surrounded him as he held the door open.
He froze for a moment. The crowd overwhelming him. However, it was a shock to him.. the place looked.. normal.
He'd half expected something like males strippers on the corner of the bar. Or millions of guys hitting on him as soon as he entered. But there wasn't anyone around, no one asking him for his phone number or gawking at him.
Finally, he let off a relieved sigh and turned to spot Kit and Alison sitting at a table.
The girls looked quite nice tonight. Alison was sporting a short little dress, as always. And Kit even ironed and straightened a lovely black jacket for the occasion.
Yet as soon as the girls got sight of him, Alison was quick to speak up.
“That's your idea of dressing up?” She gazed at him while he went to sit down.
“Well, hello to you too, Alison.” Kyle snapped. “Thanks for inviting me.”
She smiled, “You could have at least brushed your hair.”
“I did!”
“Okay, okay... That's enough.” Kit warned her partner. “You look fine, Kyle. Anyway, now that we're all here, what do you want to drink?”
Kyle thought a moment.. “I don't know, a beer.. I guess.”
Kit waved over a bartender and requested drinks for everyone. Afterwards she looked back at Kyle with a grin.
“So what do you think?” She wondered.
“It's... normal.” Kyle spouted, unable to catch himself in time.
“Well, ya! Of course it's normal.” Alison spoke up. “What did you think it would be like?”
“Umm... I don't know...” Kyle stuttered.
Soon the bartender reappeared with a tray of bottles. Three exact, for each person at the table. Kit paid for them, and offered the woman a tip before she left.
“Okay, so it's not what you expected. Let's have some fun then!” Kit announced before taking a sip from her bottle.
Kyle held onto his drink tightly, contemplating on taking a drink or not. He despised the taste of beer, why did he even ask for it? However, he slowly drank from the bottle.
Hours past by, the three sat and talked about a bunch of different things. Kyle's job, Kit's college courses, and when Alison met Kit in high school. It seemed nothing but a get together between friends.
Until...
“Hey, Kyle. If you could have anyone here... who would it be?” Alison chuckled.
Kyle gasped as some of his drink went up his nose. It was his fourth drink after all... this was a record for him.
“I don't know,” he wiped his lips.
“Oh, come on...” Alison turned in her chair.
“Hey, how about him?” She smiled as she spotted a man clad in chains and leather walking past.
Kyle's eyes opened wide. “NO!”
She turned back to face him, “Oh come on... I'd do him.”
Kit quickly slapped her on the shoulder, “You would not and you know it!”
A chuckle escaped Alison lips again.
“Quit messing around, Alli.” Kyle said. He took a big gulp from his bottle.
“Okay, say you were gay,” Kit began. “I'm not saying you ARE.. just pretend a moment. Is there anyone here that grabs your attention?”
He didn't even have to think about it. He closed his eyes and shook his head.
“Nope,” He told. “Unless I can stop pretending and pick a girl out of the crowd.”
Alison smiled, “Trust me, hun. You would have better luck with the guys here.”
“No seriously.. no one at all?” Kit wondered.
Kyle opened his eyes. Suddenly he spotted a guy playing pool at the corner of the bar.
He remained silent for a moment as he watched from afar.
Just a normal guy playing pool by himself. He shrugged to himself and thought, I'll just say something to get these two off of me.
“Okay... him.” He pointed towards the guy in the corner.
Both ladies looked over at him and with a smile, turned back towards Kyle.
“Ooo, he's cute!” Alison said.
“You like him?” Kit asked. “Go over and introduce yourself, then!”
She pushed him and he lowered his head in embarrassment.
“Stop it... Kit.” He smiled, afraid this would happen.
“Damn, Kyle. Do it... go introduce yourself!”
She grabbed hold of Kyle's hand and forced him out of his chair.
“Knock it off!” Kyle protested. “This isn't funny, you guys!”
He felt the redness boil up in his cheeks as Kit pulled him away from the table.
“Sheesh, Kyle. We're not asking you to sleep with the guy. Just go talk to him.” Alison interrupted.
“Fine!” he broke free of Kit's grasp and started to walk away.
“Ooo this is so exciting!” Alison applauded.
He couldn't believe what he was doing. The two were convinced he was gay. What did he ever do to warrant that belief? Sure, he didn't date... often... never. But that was only because he was busy working.
Kyle just never found any woman... interesting enough. They were all either like Alison, hyper and fun yet demanding. Or like Kit... nice and prepared for life yet boring. He wanted someone with all their qualities, yet he could never find that one.
Though with Kit and Alison, opposites sure did attract. Maybe he could find someone completely opposite from him?
He walked slowly, figuring out what he was going to say.
When he reached the pool table he stopped and watched the man play for a minute.
He choked, unable to figure out what to say.
'Hi'? 'Hello, my name is...'or 'Wanna play'.. no that didn't sound good...
Eventually, the man looked up and noticed Kyle staring at him.
“What?”
“Umm,” Kyle hesitated a moment. “Mind if I play with you?”
Kyle stopped and thought about what he said... damn that sounded so bad didn't it, he thought.
The man smirked, “Sure. Grab a cue.”
Kyle walked over and picked a pool stick from the selection on the wall. He turned around to notice the other man was getting ready to shoot.
“Hope you don't mind if I go first.” He stated before breaking the balls up.
“No, no...”
“So what's your name?” The man wondered as he walked around the table.
“Umm, Kyle.... you?”
“Harley.” The man said as he took another shot.
“Named after a motorcycle?” Kyle chuckled a moment.
Quickly, the man turned around. “Is that a problem?”
“No,” Kyle said. He shouldn't have said anything. “It's just, an interesting name.. that's all.”
“It's a nickname,” Harley told as he stood away from the table.
“Oh.” Kyle looked at him a moment before taking a shot. “Sorry, didn't mean to offend.”
“None taken.” Harley said. “You haven't played pool much, have you?”
Kyle took at shot and hit one of the balls that he wasn't supposed to hit.
“Why do you think that?”
“Because I'm solids.” Harley smiled.
Kyle looked back at the table and realized he was aiming for a solid colored ball.
“Oh. Umm... no, I've never played actually.”
“Hey Kit, what are you doing?” Alison wondered as she spotted Kit getting up from her seat.
“We did what we came here to do, Alli. Let's go. This place is pretty boring.” Kit said as she wandered towards the door.
“You are so evil. What about Kyle?” Alison asked.
“Ah... I'm sure he'll be alright.” Kit smirked.
Just then, Kyle knew something wasn't right. He turned around and spotted the two leaving without him.
“Hey!” He hollered, yet the music drowned him out quickly.
Alison turned and waved at him.
“Have fun!” She yelled over the music.
“Come on.. let's go home,” Kit wrapped her arm around Alison's shoulder and led her out the door.
“Shit!” Kyle spouted.
“What's wrong?” Harley wondered.
Kyle leaned up on the pool table. He couldn't believe it.
“My ride just left me.” He pouted. “I'd better go catch a bus.”
He hung the pool cue back up on the wall and walked around to the other side of the table.
“I can take you home.” Harley spoke up.
Kyle stopped dead in his tracks. “No, that's okay...”
“No really. I wouldn't trust the two o'clock schedule. You'd be lucky not to mugged or something.” Harley said.
Kyle looked up at him. His eyes filled with worry.
“It's that bad?”
Harley shook his head.
Harley walked towards the rack of pool sticks and placed his back where he found it. Kyle stood watching him. He felt awkward catching a ride from this man who'd he just met. But it was better than getting robbed on a bus... or worse.
“Are you sure? I mean, I was a little rude with the whole name thing.”
“Don't worry about it.” Harley began. “I don't mind giving you a ride. What's the address?”
