"Mmhmm. I'm oriented to Milliways, and can feel the differential between the orbit of the Earth, roughly eighteen miles per second, versus the tick of the Milliways clock. Its a Sime thing." She smiles at Moiraine, trying to be encouraging.
They walk past giant fish-tanks, filled with fish, and eventually they come to one with a gentle light filtering through blue, blue waters and touching the jewel-colored fish inside just enough to make them flicker and glow under the water.
A low bench is across the walkway, so if a viewer chooses to look for a long time she may sit and watch the upper parts of the swimming fish while other visitors walk past the lower realms.
Considering that Suzi often comes here in her Keon cloak, Moiraine isn't looked at too weird. She and Suz could, after all, pass for sisters when Suzi is wearing long-sleeves.
Besides. This is San Francisco in the early 1990s.
"I don't know? I haven't met...him?" The fish swim serenely. Carnivores are segregated from the others, so none of these fish fear for their lives. Food is plentiful, and easy to get. "This is one of my favorite places in the city. Next time I'll take you to the symphony."
"He is the Master Shark," the Aes Sedai informs her absently. "He swims the lake outside Milliways, although I would caution you not to approach when you are in distress."
Absent is good. Absent is not twisted up in her own brain, grieving. Depending on how long Moiraine takes here, they may take a detour on their way back to the bar.
Scones don't have that much sugar in them, when made right. "I end up thinking a lot? Just about life, in general, and my place in it? I don't mind it, but sometimes my brain ties up in knots. So I like to come here and just watch." Pause, "And Whistler likes to listen to the tour, and pretend that he can feel the fish through the glass."
"Joy is lots of things, but calming isn't one of them." She loves that dog second only to Whistler. "I don't know what your Ajahs are. Are they like..." she laughs at herself, "You wouldn't know. Um. Do they band together based on philosophy?"
"That is one way of putting it, I suppose," she says. "Although I might say, rather, based upon intent and interest for one's work."
"Those who choose White spend their time deep in the study of philosophy. I myself am of the Blue, as you may see by my attire. Blues are known seek to right wrongs and devote themselves to causes."
"Oh." She says with a small smile, "In my...place." they are in public, "The House of Zeor wears blue cloaks. They stand for unity between people in general. The House of Keon, which is what I pledged, stands for freedom of choice. Our cloaks are heart's love read."
"Lots of people choose it to mean terrible things." She agrees, and she touches her neck, "Sometimes I think that the first Sectuib of Keon chose it for exactly that reason. When we pledge, we wear a chain collar around our neck. As long as someone is in chains, everyone is."
At this, she turns away from the fish to give her consideration to Suzi.
"I recall you mentioning something of the sort before, when telling me how matters stood between differing... factions, back where you are from."
Her delicacy of phrasing is chosen both on account of their current location, and also because Moiraine is under the impression that Suzi's association with Whistler is strong enough to override the world she was originally from.
"Mmhmm." She doesn't think of Keon as her House, anymore. It has grown, her house, to five men and a puppy. "If you ever have more questions, I'll be happy to answer them back at the hotel." Bar. She doesn't have any fear of Moiraine, and her smile is easy on her lips when she offers it to the older woman.
"You are that certain of the time? Between spaces?"

"Show me what it is that you think I should see, Suzi. I would be interested to know your opinion."

"I wonder if this is how the world looks to ed'Rashtekaresket," she murmurs.

"I am not unacquainted with the feeling, for all that I am not White Ajah."
A beat, as she turns back to look at the water.
"I do not suppose that a fish would be much like a dog, at that. But it is an intriguing thought."

"Better far that meaning to the choice of the color red than others I have known."
